This is interesting to me-

I’m using CCs because my exDP isn’t “doing his bit” and the state doesn’t prioritise funding for early years childcare for enough.

Others of you, because you’re caring for disabled children- and presumably the state isn’t giving you enough money to live on.

I wonder what the statistics are on women and credit card debt, because I suspect there will be a strong correlation between the women as (sole) carers, and levels of credit card debt-add in data on universal credit etc. and I suspect you would find just another way the patriarchally biased socioeconomic system fucks women.

Stardustmemories · 26/10/2018 16:40

About £2021. Needed to pay of my overdraft which would have cost more than putting it on a credit card.

Andtheresaw · 26/10/2018 16:41

So you have a year of no treats to cover this debt OP. That's quite a sad thought. You go back to work and immediately have nothing left at the end of the month.

windygallows · 26/10/2018 16:41

Op I think the average debt per person is something like £8k so you're getting pretty skewed responses with all the 'zero's.

I owe almost £20k thanks to being a lone parent and having dc in fulll time daycare. 4 years of daycare that I'm now slowly paying offf.

KitKat1985 · 26/10/2018 16:42

Zero. Although I do owe my Mum 2k (it was 3k but I've already started repaying her).

I would rather not have it, but I have enough salary coming in that I should be able to clear it within 6-9 months, so it's not a disaster.

How much other people owe is in some ways irrelevant though. What matters is it an amount that is manageable for you to repay relatively easily.

IfNotNowThenWooOoOoo · 26/10/2018 16:42

Sheep I was a lp for years, ex pays no cs...you might be right!

anxiousmotherof1 · 26/10/2018 16:43

Wow you people are good .

OP posts:
Sciurus83 · 26/10/2018 16:43

I think you are right there Sheep

EK36 · 26/10/2018 16:45

Zero. If i can't afford it..I don't buy it.

Bluntness100 · 26/10/2018 16:45

Nothing I use an Amex and it's paid off in full monthly by direct debit.

anxiousmotherof1 · 26/10/2018 16:45

@Andtheresaw not sure if i will manage to be honest !

OP posts:
sanityisamyth · 26/10/2018 16:47

Zero

PickAChew · 26/10/2018 16:48

I pay off in full every month.

CornflakeMum · 26/10/2018 16:48

Nothing. Pay it off every month.

needsanewname · 26/10/2018 16:49

8k on a 0% card. It's the bane of my life but we don't spend on it and pay more than the minimum payment each month.

Coldilox · 26/10/2018 16:49

Got my bill today for £192 something and paid it already. I use it for online purchases and pay it each month in full.

Ragwort · 26/10/2018 16:50

I use a credit card rarely but always pay it back the following month when I do use one. Currently £45 to be paid off.

bitheby · 26/10/2018 16:52

About £6k but I was made redundant and then took nearly three years to get back into work.

When I was full-time employed I cleared it every month.

bitheby · 26/10/2018 16:52

All on 0% deals though.

gamerchick · 26/10/2018 16:52

Zero. Well actually I overpaid 67 quid on one of them. Must get that back.

This Brexit thing made me twitchy and seeing what Grainger games creditors did to them just made me make paying them off a priority. Those persistent debtors letters they're sending out if you don't pay them off in full each month should give a clue that things could get bad.

So yeah, they're all cut up in a drawer Grin

TheFrendo · 26/10/2018 16:52

Zero. Don't use them.

Tortoisecharlie · 26/10/2018 16:53

@thesheep I think that you are totally right. And good luck to you, keep managing those cards and find a way to reduce it as soon as you are able.

I’ve been juggling a 15 - 22k debt for 10 years now! It’s doable but you have to keep off the high rates. I keep being asked to take on loans instead - these would actually ruin me. I need flexibility. Last year I had 3k unexpected house repairs and 3k private medical expenses for my child (very necessary - some real gaping holes in our nhs). A loan repayment would have meant I’d be homeless and child not able to do x&y.

It’s true, ALL my debt has been accrued from being shafted by my Ex, having to give up work for kids, and paying for said kids treatment. The burden was all mine, and should be more balanced to Ex / state.

Glossymare · 26/10/2018 16:54

Zero. I had one, paid it off, cut it up and closed the account.

SEsofty · 26/10/2018 16:55

Wow that’s a lot of eating out and baby clothes. £100 a week

Also zero as don’t buy unless we know can pay it back . Lots of people are like that and don’t have debt apart from mortgage and why all my clothes have holes in

BendydickCuminsnatch · 26/10/2018 16:56

None. DH has a work credit card but expenses are paid off every month.
