....and to ask for clarity on any other specifically MN terms. I have been here for years, but had a loooong break, and half the time I have no idea what is being discussed these days.

Can we have some sort of pinned thread that explains our short-hand please :)

there is a magical list of abbreviations. Disclaimer: I have never read it; I just fumble along making ($(! up :)

here tis

EllaEllaE · 25/10/2018 00:36

what CAAKE said.
although whenever I see it on mumsnet my brain automatically reads it as something else a lot ruder... I guess my mine is in the gutter!

The acronym list is useful but incomplete, and the CF listed is the medical one - cystic fibrosis. Context is key to interpreting some of them!

Leobynature · 25/10/2018 01:01

Oh... I thought it meant cunt face 😳

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/10/2018 01:09

Lol at cunt face. Grin Although that works well too for most cheeky fuckers

fuckitbuckit · 25/10/2018 01:15

I always thought STBXH was stupid twat bastard x husband instead of soon to be x husband

JellieEllie · 25/10/2018 01:16

I honestly thought it meant control freak

Now everything makes sense.

jillowarriorqueen · 25/10/2018 12:22

Thanks for that list. Clears up everything.

@fuckitbuckit my brain always interprets that as Stab the Ex-Husband. Similar with rtft which I always read as Read the F*ing Thread rather than the somewhat more polite Full Thread.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/10/2018 13:08

RTFT is, I think, derived from RTFM - an acronym used by software developers rolling their eyes at 'bugs' reported by users who've clearly not bothered checking the manual. As I doubt anyone expects users to ever read the full manual, your interpretation of the F is sound.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/10/2018 13:50

It's read the full thread?! I always thought it was read the fucking thread which is a tad ruder! Grin

ASAS · 25/10/2018 13:52

I used to think LTB meant let things be
