AIBU to buy ‘lovely Mum’ mug for SIL?

Please can someone settle a disagreement between me and DH? It’s my SIL’s baby shower on Friday, this will be her first baby. Me and DH have bought a Moses basket, babygros, a few other useful bits for the baby etc and I’m also putting together a gift bag with things specifically for my SIL - a nice candle, chocolates, body butter etc and today picked up a mug with ‘Lovely Mum’ written on the side, to go in it. I thought it was cute but DH thinks it’s weird for me to give her this as she’s not my mum Grin

AIBU to give her this? I’ll go with the majority and give it to her or give it to my own mum - whatever MN decides Smile

I think cute, and overall sounds like you’ve been really lovely and thoughtful!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 23/10/2018 17:27

I think that’s absolutely fine and makes sense in the context

Linziepie · 23/10/2018 17:28

It's fine. I have just had a baby and someone bought me a mummy mug and I love it.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/10/2018 17:29

Yanbu.Smile

Yes, i think it's fine too, although, as the gift is for DH's sister and he has a strong opinion against it, I'd probably go with his gut reaction and not give it.

Twickerhun · 23/10/2018 17:31

I got one of those mugs in my baby shower. Box of goodies from work, I’m drinking my coffee out of it now

Whereisthecoffee · 23/10/2018 17:33

I think it’s a lovely gesture but if you could afford it would probably replace with a flask as it is more practical.

pinkyredrose · 23/10/2018 17:34

Sheesh how much are you spending? Sounds way over the top. I'm with your DH but only because those mugs are tacky as hell.

AlphaBravo · 23/10/2018 17:34

It's his sister. Go with what he would prefer. Cant you get a 'born in 2018/2019' mug?

KC225 · 23/10/2018 17:34

No - In agree with your DH. It's something, one gets from a child or you would give to a mother figure. All the things you have bought her sound perfect - save the 'mum' for her DH to give her on Mother's Day or for messy handprint one your child makes you at Christmas.

riotlady · 23/10/2018 17:37

Sounds lovely to me!

Vickytoria72 · 23/10/2018 17:41

I got one of those mugs from my mother in law after having my first child. I still use it to this day 7 year's later.

@pinkyredrose way over the top for a niece or nephew ? really? I spend hundreds of pounds a year on my nephew. When he was newborn I bought his Moses basket, several outfits and gave my dbro&sil £100.

I think the mug would be nice op. It's clear you're not saying she's your lovely mummy

problembottom · 23/10/2018 22:20

Sounds lovely! It’s my baby shower this weekend I hope I get one. Smile

RedDrink · 23/10/2018 22:31

I think it sounds nice, my SIL did something similar for me and my husband thought it was weird. Whatever. 😅

Mammylamb · 23/10/2018 22:32

Thermal cup with a lid would be much more useful!!!!!
