I can't stand not having anything to listen to when I'm working/ doing housework.
I usually catch up on Corrie/eastenders etc (I know the voices so well I don't have to watch ) but feel like podcasts would be better!
I've not listened to any since Russell Brand's 5 million years ago.
Help!

Scummy Mummies. It's like a spoken word version of Mumsnet.
I also listen to a lot of Radio 4 Comedy stuff.
YoumeandlittleP · 22/10/2018 13:55
Following with interest. A few weeks ago there was a thread about a true crime podcast that a lot of mumsnetters swore by but I can't find the thread anywhere. Would love to get into podcasts. Also no idea where to start

Simon Mayos confessions can be quite funny. James O'Brien's Mystery Hour is funny and educational too.

I'm a big fan of podcasts. Some of my faves are:
Answer me this
99% invisible
The modern mann
Criminal (although it's not as good lately - check out the earlier episodes)

Another for Guilty Feminist, it's brilliant. Also like The Right Thing (panel show) and How Did This Get Made? which is a US one about rubbish films.
BertrandRussell · 22/10/2018 14:10
Elis and John.
My dad wrote a porno
Dumteedum (only if you like the Archers.
The Bugle

I have an iPhone and listen to podcasts in iTunes. You can search by categories / genres / authors, etc. Podcasters often recommend other podcasts.
The first podcasts I listened to were Escape Pod, a weekly reading of a science fiction short story. That led me to other sci-fi podcasts, then to other genres.
There are also readings of classic novels on the iTunes. I think most of those are from Librivox. If you like horror, Scott Sigler can be worth a listen.
Have fun!

Mystery Show (my fave ever podcast)
Slow burn
My favourite murder
Song Exploder
My Dad Wrote a Porno
No Such Thing As A Fish
This American Life
StoryCorps
TeddyIsaHe · 22/10/2018 14:15
My Dad Wrote a Porno for v lighthearted and absolutely weep with laughter listening.
HelloDoris · 22/10/2018 14:18
The Horne section, if you like musical comedy nonsense.
What's the Tee with Ru Paul and Michelle Visage
Walk the dog with Emily Dean
Adam Buxton podcast
Radio 4 comedy of the week
I like comedy stuff mainly, looking for some good historical podcasts most I have found are quite dry and tedious..
newlabelwriter · 22/10/2018 14:19
Another for My Dad Wrote a Porno, it's brilliant. Also ditto Scummy Mummies. It's great. I also listen to You Must Remember This, which is a history of the first century of Hollywood. It's fascinating.
ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2018 14:19
Scott mills daily is great
My Dad Wrote A Porno is genuinely hilarious
BertrandRussell · 22/10/2018 14:22
For people who like comedy, The Comedian’s Comedian is great. Insightful long form interviews- and a massive archive to catch up on.
BarbaraofSevillle · 22/10/2018 14:23
I tried My Dad Wrote a Porno and just found it cringlingly weird. I'm not a prude or offended by the content, it was just very odd.
But I've got subscriptions to more podcasts than I can get through, so it's not like I'm in danger of running out of stuff to listen to. I listen in the car and if I get a backlog, I delete some of the stuff that I'm only semi interested in - I like the Guilty Feminist and Woman's Hour for example, but not all the content in all podcasts.

Wooden overcoats has me in stitches. Sadly it's only got a few seasons
