To reuse gift bags?

I was given some presents in really lovely gift bags for my birthday a few months ago. I kept a few because I couldn’t bring myself to put them in the recycling.

Just wrapping a birthday present for MIL now and the wrapping paper I bought goes really well with one of the gift bags.

Is it BU to give someone a gift in a second hand gift bag? I’ve kept it in lovely condition!

Why don't you write on the tag ? That's what it is for!

How long should this not writing on the tag continue for in the (not in the least unreasonable) habit of reusing gift bags? Does it never ever get written on? Who should break this deadlock?

I always think it's a bit lame to not write on it, like the giver just CBA and didn't really care enough to bother. You don't put an empty card in a blank envelope so they can re-use that, do you.

So if you get a gift from me the tag will always be written on. And I really don't mind if I get the same gift bag back - after all I obviously liked it enough to buy it!

I have a family member that puts the gift in the carrier bag from the shop he’s bought it from.

I'd think 'there goes a more money than sense, doesn't give a fuck about the planet, stupid person'.

So you're so right on and environmentally friendly you use laminated paper which can't be recycled like normal wrapping paper (or newspaper or brown paper or even cloth) can?

Come off it. That's just virtue signalling now.

SpeckledyHen · 22/10/2018 07:41

Of course gift bags should be recycled , and the tag removed if it has been written on .

SushiMonster · 22/10/2018 07:41

I thought everyone reused gift bags?

AngelaSchrute · 22/10/2018 08:02

Oooh, MIL and I love a good gift bag rotate.

She always gives me the nicest ones because she knows she will get them back in perfect condition and vice-versa. Blush :o

Antigon · 22/10/2018 08:06

We're definitely in an unspoken agreement with friends and relatives to leave tags on gift bags blank.

BillywilliamV · 22/10/2018 08:09

Wh drawer full of gift used bags, use them with tissue paper you get in shoe boxes, wrapped round jumpers etc
I am being green!

jq28 · 22/10/2018 08:12

I always re use them!

SheSparkles · 22/10/2018 08:17

I tend to not write on the tag, but if I receive one where the tag’s been written on, it can be snipped off and a new one attached, it isn’t a dealbreaker

Spookytoast, has your DH seen this thread? I have a mental image of him buried under an avalanche of comments, in the form of brightly coloured gift bags........

ManILurveCake · 22/10/2018 10:27

YA definitely NBU.

Most gift bags are far too nice to only be used the once & then recycled.

CaptainCabinets · 22/10/2018 10:33

I reuse bags! I gave my friend a present in a gorgeous gift bag I’d received and then she gave it back to me with my birthday present Grin

SD1978 · 22/10/2018 10:39

I've received the same gift bag three times from different people. I always have a giggle when it makes its way home again. Haven't bought a new one in years.

shirleyschmidt · 22/10/2018 10:47

I literally always reuse them. I have a huge sack of gift bags of all shapes, sizes and themes! Why wouldn't you, as long as it was still in good condition?! I give the 'worst' ones to immediate family and always get them back 😁

CountFosco · 22/10/2018 10:58

I never buy gift bags but I always reuse the ones we have. Like the 57 in circulation theory but I have quite a lot at the moment so clearly am hogging more than my fair share!

bumblebee39 · 22/10/2018 10:59

YANBU

Just make sure you change/detach any labels X

Satsumaeater · 22/10/2018 11:00
