To reuse gift bags?

I was given some presents in really lovely gift bags for my birthday a few months ago. I kept a few because I couldn’t bring myself to put them in the recycling.

Just wrapping a birthday present for MIL now and the wrapping paper I bought goes really well with one of the gift bags.

Is it BU to give someone a gift in a second hand gift bag? I’ve kept it in lovely condition!

Oh elissandra I love that idea :)

It wouldn’t cross my mind NOT to reuse it x

Littlepond · 21/10/2018 11:35

Surely everyone reuses gift bags?! I have a whole drawer of them!

LuxuryWoman2018 · 21/10/2018 11:35

Can't imagine what else you'd do with them, in my family they get used back and forth all the time.

Serialweightwatcher · 21/10/2018 11:36

I always have - they're expensive ... I always make a point at Christmas of making sure the kids and DH don't rip through them lol

thisneverendingsummer · 21/10/2018 11:37

Good grief yes. Why on earth would you NOT re-use gift bags?

thereallochnessmonster · 21/10/2018 11:37

YANBU! We always do this. Why on earth not? They can last for ages and several gift-givings!!

Peridot1 · 21/10/2018 11:38

Always reuse. I have a big stash of Christmas ones too and we use them each year. Much more environmentally friendly and much less mess to clear up after all the presents have been opened. DS is a teen so not Father Christmas here.

queenofthemountains · 21/10/2018 11:40

Doesn't everyone?
I've also stopped using wrapping paper, I wrap gifts with newspaper or magazines, always choose a nice picture or funny cartoon to go on the front.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/10/2018 11:42

I would judge you if you didn't reuse them

Me too. I'd think 'there goes a more money than sense, doesn't give a fuck about the planet, stupid person'.

And if someone gets one back that they've had before, we just laugh about it, nobody judges, we all reuse them, as we should.

Hushnownobodycares · 21/10/2018 11:43

It would be more unreasonable not to reuse them.

Tiredtomybones · 21/10/2018 11:43

Definitely reuse them. My friends and I have an agreement that we never write on the tags so that they can continue to be passed on.

Gottagetmoving · 21/10/2018 11:43

My daughter always leaves the message tag blank when she gives me a gift in a bag so I can reuse it.
We've even given each other gifts again in the same bag.
It's just wasteful not to.

HoppyHop · 21/10/2018 11:44

Always reuse. A friend and I reused the same new baby gift bag between us for 4 children! Started as an accidental return but we kept it going!

Butterflycookie · 21/10/2018 11:50

Errrm I thought everyone reused them! I’m actually quite surprised. Why would you throw a gift bag away? Most of the things we put into recycling don’t even get recycled. Confused

On another note, I rarely even get gift bags. But if I get a really nice one I’ll reuse it and put my stuff in it Blush.

ciderhouserules · 21/10/2018 11:53

but Imake sure I remember who gave me the bag - does anyone seriously remember the wrapping they used on a gift? Hmm I certainly wouldn't.

I reuse gift bags, wrapping paper, gift tags if not written on, and I keep Xmas and birthday cards and cut them up for gift tags. I don't care if people recognise them (they don't) or see it as being tight. It's resourceful, creative and Eco-friendly.

RebelWitchFace · 21/10/2018 11:53

I always reuse them. Have a big stash of adult/kids one that I use as appropriate. Never thought of recycling them. I have a friend whose bday is in November and mine is in December, her DDs is in late December and my DDs is in January . We have a big standing joke of how many times we can reuse the same gift bag.

MrsEricBana · 21/10/2018 11:57

Yes, it would be wrong NOT to reuse them.

lottiegarbanzo · 21/10/2018 11:57

I always do, unless they're damaged. It would irresponsibly wasteful not to IMO!

grumiosmum · 21/10/2018 11:59

I'd think 'there goes a more money than sense, doesn't give a fuck about the planet, stupid person'.

This ^

grumiosmum · 21/10/2018 12:00

Actually OP, I can't believe you even need to ask?

Whitecurrants · 21/10/2018 12:08

While we're on the subject and with Christmas closer than I care to admit to myself, WIBU to remind you lovely green people that some wrapping paper can't be recycled? I love glittery and foil paper and have often used it in the past but this year I'm going to try to use only the recyclable stuff

CryingOverSpiltMilk · 21/10/2018 12:12

Of course otherwise they would get recycled straight away or sit unused in my home. Much better system reusing them and I also do it with gifts and don't feel bad for that either.

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2018 12:16

I made fabric bags. People love seeing them every year. Christmas and birthdays. I also hemmed big squares of Christmas-themed fabric and otter jolly prints and wrap gifts in them as you would wrapping paper, tied up with ribbon. 8 years i haven't bought wrapping paper. I love it. 7Yo loves seeing the same fabric, "this had my trainset in it last year" etc Grin

gamerwidow · 21/10/2018 12:17

Everyone reuses them. I always leave the gift card bit blank so they can be reused if they person I give it to wants. Most of them aren’t recyclable so it saves money and they environment.

FuzzyShadowChatter · 21/10/2018 12:17

Like everyone else, I always do. I love gift bags and spreading them around.

In fact, with my kids, I bought big decorative bags to put their birthday and such presents in. We use the same ones each time, they know that that is their special bag and it works really well for us: they love it and I can avoid wrapping presents Grin
