Letting a 6 year old watch the Simpsons

Please good people of Mumsnet help me get across to my DH that the simpsons is not really suitable for 6 year old DD to be watching.

He put it on tonight for her and I went mad saying it's unsuitable. He thinks I'm being very unreasonable, am I ???

While some humour in the Simpsons may not exactly be aimed at young children, one thing to bear in mind is that very young kids will not understand that humour anyway.

It's not a particularly violent or sexual programme, so I am not sure it's that bad to be honest.

I occasionally let my 7 year old watch it, and I want to add an interesting bit of info; I can't remember where I read it, but, I saw an article that said shows like The Simpsons are good for showing a range of facial expressions and emotions. My dd is autistic and still has a little difficulty with this, so I don't mind her watching it.

Sallystyle · 22/10/2018 10:07

My children have been watching it from a very young age. Six is fine.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 22/10/2018 10:43

I think YABU.

It's funny for all ages, quite educational and has a strong moral consciousness.

Check out the Coming To Homerica episode which strongly mirrors the Trump election campaign.

NotATeen69 · 28/03/2020 23:46

I've been watching it straight out the womb it's fine. Jeez poor kid hope you learn to be less tight haha.

ocarinan · 28/03/2020 23:48

It's fine, so long as she watches the older stuff. The new ones aren't as good.

LittleMcJiggle · 28/03/2020 23:49

Aw OP you're being unreasonable! We love the Simpsons here Smile

Kids love it and the 'adult stuff' goes way over their heads. It's one of the only programmes I think we all enjoy watching.

PositiveVibez · 28/03/2020 23:51

When there's nothing on, the Simpsons is always on in this house.

DD is 11 now. Innuendo used to go over her head. Now if she doesn't understand a joke, she asks and we tell her.

It's hilarious, clever, shows idiots for what they are, loves the underdog.

We bloody love it!

Zoecarter · 28/03/2020 23:52

My 21 month old seen it today and loved it xx

ViciousJackdaw · 29/03/2020 00:11

Everything I have learned about American history has come from The Simpsons. It's educational.

Hannahlouise4026 · 29/03/2020 00:14

Yabu

Zombiemum1946 · 29/03/2020 00:21

I knew very little about it other than my niece loved it. I put it on for ds and Marge was dressed up as dominatrix about to whip homer. So no not suitable for 6 yr old. Dd has asked to watch it and her now 17 yr old brother said no.

SuburbanFraggle · 29/03/2020 00:24

Wow

Just because it is animated does not mean it is for children. South Park is fine too right?

Yadnbu op. It's not for primary aged children. It is satirical tongue in cheek humour addressing heavy issues in a light-hearted way.

Tothemoonandbackx · 29/03/2020 00:28

Is anyone noticing the dates of these posts, this is the second one on the Simpsons I've seen tonight, the first one was from 2011 and this one is from 2018, the same person has commented on both about the Simpsons which has brought them back up 😂😂😂 Xx
