Letting a 6 year old watch the Simpsons

sassypants72 · 20/10/2018 21:45

Please good people of Mumsnet help me get across to my DH that the simpsons is not really suitable for 6 year old DD to be watching.

He put it on tonight for her and I went mad saying it's unsuitable. He thinks I'm being very unreasonable, am I ???

OP posts:
Holdingonbarely · 21/10/2018 17:39

twattymctwatterson · 21/10/2018 18:19

It's really fine. You went mad? I was watching Hammer Horror films with my dad at that age

Maldives2006 · 21/10/2018 18:23

Like what?

LinoleumBlownapart · 21/10/2018 19:45

By "pick stuff up" do you mean introduced and educated about stuff? My teens would "pick stuff up" but my little ones wouldn't because I like them to learn stuff at an age appropriate time.

E20mom · 21/10/2018 19:46

YABU, sorry.

Fontofnoknowledge · 21/10/2018 22:31

Have the flat earth society and their Amish cousins all joined MN today. ?
Some really scary parents out there. Almost worthy of there very own Simpsons episode...

waxy1 · 21/10/2018 22:34

You are op-faced.

waxy1 · 21/10/2018 22:35

Po-faced haha.

When is something going to be done about the fucking autocormorants!!

Cagliostro · 21/10/2018 23:11

:o

MissusLuciferMorningstar · 21/10/2018 23:16

If it's not Family Guy or South Park, and it's a family based cartoon full of yellow people doing daft things, and with a good underlying moral stance, you're OK. Oooh. The Simpsons!

And I bloody love FG and SP, but that's for a little later!

Windyone · 21/10/2018 23:21

YANBU

StormcloakNord · 21/10/2018 23:24

4yo DD watches it with us.

Anyone got Netflix? We've all been watching Big Mouth and it's soooo good. DD loves it

Leah91 · 21/10/2018 23:31

Some of the writers are dedicated to putting in complec maths refernces and jokes... your six year old might learn something Smile www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2013/sep/22/the-simpsons-secret-formula-maths-simon-singh

I’m not a big fan as an adult but think it’s great for kids.

StormcloakNord · 21/10/2018 23:43

@Grrrt ah really? I've found it quite funny and found myself laughing a lot at it! It's a great show for kids too, feel like it makes light of stuff that's usually 'taboo' for kids/young teens.

Grrrt · 21/10/2018 23:53

It’s not bad just a little stale. I think the very first joke in it is how ‘coming’ sounds like ‘cumming’. I don’t think it brings anything new to adult animated comedies, except for body positivity messages which are very worthwhile for younger viewers.

On Netflix, I much prefer Bojack (even if it take a while to get going).

StellaWouldYouTakeMeHome · 22/10/2018 00:13

Really? For goodness sake it’s the Simpsons, hardly inappropriate. It’s a show for everyone. Sometimes I hate Mumsnet

spanishwife · 22/10/2018 00:15

There are equally rude jokes in Monsters Inc.. they are just cleverly written so they go over the kids heads.

FunSponges · 22/10/2018 00:19

I didn't let mine at 6. Me and DH were always massive fans and used to put it on when DS was younger and then we realised it's quite inappropriate. We have quite a few series on DVD and after the first 4 series they are 12s and they aren't cut for TV.

I've given in now as DCs love it but there are quite a lot of sex references actually which makes me uncomfortable. The language is questionable too and there is stuff that I wouldn't allow my DCs to say.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 22/10/2018 00:28

**Fontofnoknowledge Grin flat earthers and their Amish cousins 😂

OP yabu!
It's the Simpsons not Saw.

My DC have watched it from a very young age and it's something I enjoy watching with them. They laugh at some parts.
I laugh at it all.

StormcloakNord · 22/10/2018 09:01

@FunSponges sorry but your username is very apt 😂🙈

VerbeenaBeeks · 22/10/2018 09:14

I love The Simpsons, something for everyone! Would have no problem with kids watching it at 6, it really isn't bad! Are you mixing it up with Family Guy or something?! As for those words linked up thread, never have I heard stuff like bitch etc on there, and I watch it a lot when it's on. If they're there they are definitely edited out when it's shown on telly at tea time!

RandomObject · 22/10/2018 09:20

For what it's worth I started watching South Park when I was 9...
