To think that trans self-ID negates single sex bays in hospitals

Single sex bays in hospitals were brought in after a lot of research into patient needs and wishes, and are part of government requirements to the NHS. They have cost a lot of money to set up for many hospitals. AIBU to think that current proposals for self-ID for trans people makes a complete mockery of this?

Yes. Most NHS trusts have a self ID policy already - thy segregate by gender Identity, not sex and a recent expose showed this was a conscious decision taken u derstanding the implications

Yes. The Equality Act of 2010 means that transpeople (with and without a GRC) are already allowed in single-gender wards as appropriate. Self-ID has nothing to do with it.

The EA allows for single sex exemptions and exceptions where is is proportional and necessary

A single sex ward SHOULD fall under that.

However, the guidance is being interpreted so that gender is being used instead of sex. So in effect there are no single sex wards any more.

The public should be made aware of this.

Self ID will cement this further, and remove the ability to enforce the EA. Effectively, all wards, prisons, refuges, toilets, changing rooms and any other space or service will become unisex.
