So normal working week is 9-5.30 Mon to Fri however in this line of business we have 12 weeks of peak sales that have to be accommodated (I work in production so have to get these orders made) from Nov to Feb. Last year a 24 hour rota system was put in place and the same is happening this year. I refused to do any evening or night shifts last year which didn't go down well and I want the same this year. This hasn't gone down well with my line manager .am I being aibu

You have to raise concerns within a reasonable time- a few weeks or your are deemed to have accepted the contract by working and accepting pay in return.

See your union rep for advise

What is in your contract will have a bearing on this but the company can’t just expect you to do night shift without it being in your job description to start with as it would be unfair

So many Victorian values on this thread, workers should just shut up and put up regardless 😡

Biancadelriosback · 20/10/2018 08:11

@ivykat44 when OP started the job she exclusively worked nights so was well aware of the working hours and expectations. She had no obligation to take the job. She then changed to full time hours which meant 9-5 for most of the year except over a certain period where she would need to work nights again. Of course you 'put up' with it, it's the nature of the job!

What Bianca said. I did actually work in a place where they would hire people for unsocial hours and make no mention of it whatsoever in the job description or interview, I have sympathy for people in that situation.

I have worked there since Dec 16 starting on evening shift straight after my normal job, there was an overlap of 1 week. Shift pattern in place, then 9 - 5.30 Mon- Fri til t yhe following Dec and then same again this year. There is occasional overtime which is good and volununteer. I have offered to work 6am starts

An evening shift is very different from a night shift.
If you move to a different shift for mire than 3minths you cannot legally be expected to return to another shift just because when you started that’s what you did.
