Single mum and desperate to treat my two (8 & 5) to a holiday next year.

Hours and hours of research to find somewhere within budget. Came across lovely rental in Menorca. 11 5 stars reviews. Paid deposit and secured booking on the 9th October.

I have just checked again as wanted to daydream about next year. There’s a new review and it decimates the property! Refers to very loud music late at night from across the road from newly opened bar area and that road has become very noisy early in the morning with delivery lorries This review is dated 27th September but it sure as heck wasn’t there when I booked on the 9th October after spending about 20 hours reading and re reading the reviews. The review has obviously only just been authorised and published but 3 weeks after written.

I don’t know what to do. AIBU to feel it’s a bit crap of trip advisor?

If it usually takes that long there has been a dispute. Trip advisor rarely side with the business.

It's one review, it could be total bollocks.

wonderandwander · 19/10/2018 18:22

If there was a dispute then it would seem that they have “sided” with the reviewer by allowing it to be published? Sorry not at all experienced with TA

There’s no point worrying about it now. You’ll just stress yourself about it. It sounds like the only bad review with other good ones? I always take bad reviews with a pinch of salt as some people have such high expectations of things.

If you want to daydream just look at pictures of sandy beaches and imagine the sun warming you Smile

Bunnybigears · 19/10/2018 22:09

Take it with a pinch of salt we have been to some fabulous hotels where some of the reviews on Trip Advisor have sounded like it would be hell on earth.

Jaxhog · 19/10/2018 22:44

Why not phone the hotel and ask them. They may well tell tyou hat the reviewer refused to pay their bill and were a bunch of troublemakers. Tripadviser reviews are notoriously unreliable.

Or buy some cheap ear plugs for you and the kids.

QuickPollPlease · 19/10/2018 23:13

Email the hotel and ask for rooms away from the road?

Singlenotsingle · 19/10/2018 23:18

The bar might have shut down by next year.

ChristmasFluff · 20/10/2018 00:13

I really wouldn't worry. I've done similar - arrived at hotels and asked for a room well away from their function room, on advice of tripadvisor reviews, to be met by baffled 'we don't have a function room' responses etc. Also a gorgeous log cabin I stayed in got a 1 star review 'because it won't let me give zero stars', because it was apparently filthy. They must have really worked all the hours god sent to get it spotless by the time I arrived later that day! Some reviewers are arses, and some are paid to be so. If you did your research, don't worry - but don't forget to leave your feedback too - and have a great holiday xx

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/10/2018 00:20

Please don't worry about a single review, have a lovely holiday.
