The consultation on whether to allow any man to self identify as a woman closes at 11pm tomorrow. If we allow this to happen, we will never be able to put the genie back in the bottle when more women and girls are harmed.

I’m member of Labour Party and got invite to fill it in. Concerningly says

What about the equality act?
Contrary to what is being spouted by anti-trans groups, this consultation DOES NOT impact the Equality Act of 2010.

Don’t see how they can say that! Not that I am by any means an expert. Only thing I can see is if it goes through law we still have single spaces but it be women and trans women as one space and therefore still “single?”.

Done and my mum did it too.

Might be worth one last push in emailing your MPs on this matter too.

A recent poll of MPs by ComRes found that of 150 MPs questioned, 54% disagreed with the statement “I feel I can speak freely on transgender issues without undue fear of social media attacks or being accused of transphobia.”

Did it a few weeks ago and I'm getting everyone at work to do it too, especially after hearing Rachel McKinnon say that no transwoman was EVER born a man on radio 4 this morning.

Has anyone got the link to the actual government consultation? I've been trying to convince my mum for months that this is actually happening. She said it's too ludicrous to believe

So did mine. She did do the quick version of the consultation in the end though. Thanks Mum x

some people think that as soon as a man or boy says the words 'I identify as trans/a woman/a girl' he magically, immediately ceases to be male. Some people, a depressingly large number of women, are that stupid.

@RiverTam I honestly think some people just want to be seen as so right on that they’ll go along with anything, no matter how absurd.

To paraphrase Zaphod Beeblebrox, they consider the rest of us so unhip that our bums might fall off 😜

senua · 19/10/2018 09:44

this consultation DOES NOT impact the Equality Act of 2010.

I sounded like a broken record by the end of the consultation.
The GRA alters the definition of a protected characteristic (female) therefore of course it feeds back into the Equality Act.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/10/2018 09:45

Can anyone help me with something please? I have filled in the form and I would like to share it to facebook, My only issue is I am not very good with words and want to get this right so people understand what I am saying and dont take it the wrong way if you know what I mean.

Could anyone help me articulate a good wording for me to share the post to facebook?

RiverTam · 19/10/2018 09:46

Cave my favourite (which I might have first come across here on MN, kudos to whoever first said it) - they want to be so open-minded that their brains have fallen out.
