AIBU for thinking Amazon should fire their packing robots?

Just got this delivered. AIBU to think Amazon's gone bonkers?

Amazon don't have packing robots, they're packed by people. Every product is scanned by every person who comes into contact with it in the warehouse, so if you're not happy with the packaging, leave an Amazon review and the correct person will be told off.

They may just have run out of smaller boxes though, and didn't want you to wait for your package an extra day for the sake of a smaller box. At least it's recyclable.

Amazon are really bad for this.

But then again if I'm ordering a small item using my Prime membership they have an obligation to get it to me the following day & that may mean using a larger box than the item really needs.

Amazon have a program which recommends the correct size box, depending not on the size of the item but on the most effective way to pack the Vans. This is why you get anomalies like these. The decision to use these size of boxes will not have been made by a human.

OP first item I can see why it is in a box that size as due to the length it is packed on the diagonal. I haven't received Amazon packaging yet that suits long narrow items. However the second item packaging doesn't make sense, though when I've received memory cards or similar the packaging while smaller is still too much.

I know it doesn’t excuse it but you can give packaging feedback for each product
