To be fucked off with the mirena coil

letscometogether · 17/10/2018 16:35

I know I’ve only had it in for two bastarding weeks, but I’ve bled continuously since then, ranging from mild light to very light. Fucking fucked off. I’ve also had mild cramps since and every time I think the bleeding has stopped, I get cramps and it’s back!!

Also, I swear my hair is greasier than before. Blegh!

@buscaution it's okay...I was only brainstorming at 1.30 am in the morning.

Although waking up to 30 minutes of excruciating cramps that reminded me of childbirth I certainly gave it a serious thought

Seems to suit some people really well but not me!

Yes that's very true. Some it seems to suit well and others horrifically. Looks like when it fucks up it fucks up big time.

But I shall persevere. Through bleeding, greasy hair and the worst pain I've felt since childbirth 😊

Thank you all again 🙂

I also had mine taken out. Never been happier.

never stopped bleeding, sex drive disappeared which for me is unheard of, greasy hair/spots, the whole works. Never again!

had an endometrial ablation that sorted out the bleeding

contraception still an issue but use condoms!

Deepbreathsbabe · 18/10/2018 09:09

I bled for around 6 weeks but the pain never went away. I went to have it taken out after a couple of months and they couldn't find it. I had to go for a scan and have a procedure at the hospital to have it removed from somewhere it shouldn't have been. The thought of them makes me feel so sick now but my mum swears by hers.

That's different. Definitely speak to your GP.

My comment was made based on the previous posts of mild pain and light bleeding.

What you have described since is absolutely not normal and you should get yourself checked out.

letscometogether · 18/10/2018 10:32

@buscaution oh I know, I didn't take the comment personally, I'm the same in regards to GP's time/expenses.

It's mildly continuing throughout today so far. Feel like I've gone 12 rounds with mike tyson!!! Will see how it progresses. Did wake up to what looks like the bleeding stopping, but that's happened before so...

I love mine. I don't need contraception, I just have it to stop my periods. Wouldn't be without it now.

DW is a contraception and sexual health nurse. She always says if she needed contraception she's only ever gonfor the Mirena, fewer side effects compared to all the other long acting ones. Of course it's not for everyone but the majority of women it works brilliantly for with minimal side effects.

BettysHotpot1 · 18/10/2018 11:56

I can't say that I love mine - yet. Late 40s, don't need for contraception, GP slowly convinced me over a few years that it would help my flooding periods. Can leave it in for up to 7 years, may take me through menopause.

Have had it 4 months, only stopped bleeding/spotting 3 weeks ago. Have had the greasier hair & skin, few extra spots, a sneaky half stone has come from nowhere, but am going to stick with it. My life was based around the worst days of my period and I was fed up of it.

Amani · 18/10/2018 12:53

Well went to the clinic today again due to pains (struggling to walk for long periods given that I run 2 miles a day) and scan showed that the coil is in place and looking normal. Been told to keep it in for three weeks, take a course of antibiotics and come back after for removal. Cannot wait for three weeks tomes!

Amani · 18/10/2018 12:53

times

Belina · 18/10/2018 12:55

op same, had it around two weeks and constant bleeding its annoying

April241 · 18/10/2018 13:10

Had mine put in Dec 2016, spotted/bled a bit till around March/April 2017 and I’ve had nothing since. It does ease off :)

OddBoots · 18/10/2018 13:47

Cramps that bad don't sound normal, have you checked your temperature in case you have an infection? I'd speak to your GP at least for advice anyway. Do you have a follow up appointment? I had to book a 6 week coil check when I had mine put in so they could check it was okay.

letscometogether · 18/10/2018 13:55

@Amani I bet you can't! sorry you're going through such hell, but at least the end is in sight now. Hope all goes well for then

letscometogether · 18/10/2018 13:59

@OddBoots she didn't give me a follow up appointment which I thought was a bit off. I think I will take my temp as I'm still cramping and twinging a bit on my right side, and a bit uncomfortable above the belly button/rib cage.

ShotsFired · 18/10/2018 14:07

This is going to sound utterly thick, but despite all the research I did before I had it put in, I only found out a week or two ago that it doesn't stop the cycle, just the bleeding (mostly).

So I had been bumbling along without a care in the world assuming that everything (ex-)boyfriend did that annoyed or upset me was 'genuine', when in actual fact I am pretty sure much of it was hormonal.

At one stage he did say he could tell because I changed, but I was so oblivious about the above fact that I ignored it thinking he was making it up.

Sadly those moods are one of the reasons he's an ex, so if I knew then what i know now... Sad

I'd get it taken out but I simply cba with periods after not having them for about 25 years now. And there is nobody else to worry about, so that aspect doesn't matter either.

greencatbluecat · 18/10/2018 14:18

I'm on my second one. I had the Mirena due to very heavy periods (had to set an alarm
In the middle of the nice to change sanitary protection). When the first one was inserted, I had light/medium bleeding for several weeks. However, now, several years down the line, I've had virtually no bleeding whatsoever. It's a Godsend!

Amani · 18/10/2018 14:42

@oddboots
Thank you and hope you get your situation resolved quickly too. X
I’ve had a had water bottle strapped to my abdomen for best part of the last few days.
I’ve been told to monitor my temp and if it goes up to call back (35.7 degrees so ok!)
Keep stressing out this stupid thing!

Amani · 18/10/2018 14:45

Whoops sorry the @ in my previous message should be to letscometogether

letscometogether · 18/10/2018 15:45

Can I ask, is it also normal to get bits of dark red clot type things as well, looks like the clot when you have a period but small bits here and there.

OP posts:
BlooperReel · 18/10/2018 15:55

Had it for just over a year, very light 'periods that lasted for weeks, but were sporadic, awfully greasy hair, 'bacne', thick dark hairs randomly popped out on my jawline and around edge of my nipples, I put on over a stone, I had zero libido and was a horrible, miserable, impatient witch.

It was probably the worst contraception I ever had, if you find you haven't settled on it within a few months, have it whipped out, I let my Doctor talk me into keeping it for 11 months', when I'd finally had enough, they couldn't find the threads for removal! Took a further 2 months for the scan, then hysteroscopy to remove the bastard thing.

RosaNullaSpina · 18/10/2018 16:10

I had one for heavy periods due to a fibroid. I felt bloated at first and had spotting. The spotting gradually got worse and I was bleeding almost continually. After about six weeks I got a bleed that no tampon or pad was ever designed to cope with. Went to A & E and got a patronizing lecture about how the bleeding wasn’t as bad as I thought. Doctor examines me and discovers coil is being rejected. I was later told by another gynae that I should not have been given the coil at all because my womb was enlarged due to the fibroid.

Had a sub-total hystie a few weeks later, and never looked back. But even though it was bad for me, that doesn’t mean it can’t be good for others. Just make sure it’s right for you, it should never be given to any woman whose womb is enlarged.

RosaNullaSpina · 18/10/2018 16:21

And yeah, watch out for anaemia. My iron levels went so low I almost needed a transfusion. I had heart palps and so weird! a craving for ice. My Mum sent me an article saying a craving for ice (or coal! thank god I didn’t have that) where you’re more interested in the ice than the drink is a sign of severe iron-deficiency anaemia. Had blood test and guess what. Doctor had told me I was worrying unnecessarily.

Amani · 18/10/2018 16:46

@letscometogether no clots for me ... in addition to the pain have bloating and spitting ...

Amani · 18/10/2018 16:46

Spotting not spitting ..!
