Ok so went to the drs yesterday. She diagnosed pneumonia. Got a hefty dose of antibiotics and have to go back tomorrow. She did say get an emergency appointment or call 111 if i get worse. Today the chest pain I have has started to spread across my shoulder and down my left arm. Is this normal for pneumonia?still struggling being out of breath aswel. Don't want to waste anyone's time when I already have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow.

Shoulder pain is a symptom of pleurisy. I know that sounds strange but it's referred pain. Pneumonia and pleurisy often happen together. My husband tried to keep going through both but eventually became SO ill. Please call 111. You are wasting no body's time. They will decide if you need to go into hospital. Good Luck.

StylishDuck · 17/10/2018 12:42

Why don't you call 111 and let them decide if it's worth bothering them about

Hope you feel better soon OP

No. Don't wait for him to get up. Ring now. He can lose an hour!

EnglishRose13 · 17/10/2018 13:05

Sounds like pleurisy. I've had that. Awful.

greendale17 · 17/10/2018 13:08

Oh for heavens sake, stop messing about and just ring 111. Why would people on a forum have the answer?

Conseulabananahammock · 17/10/2018 13:11

Greendale thanks for that. Was just wondering if it was common with pneumonia . Asking for experience not grief.

Either ring 111 NOW or go to A&E if you’ve got pneumonia and your breathing is difficult your lung may have collapsed, in which case you’ll need to be admitted to hospital. I suspect 111 will tell you to go to A&E. I was admitted with pneumonia and suspected lung collapse some years ago. Needed IV antibiotics and oxygen.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 17/10/2018 13:23

I was hospitalised last week with pneumonia and had the same pain. Mine was due to my lung beginning to collapse. Please do seek help asap

Conseulabananahammock · 17/10/2018 13:23

Oh good God that sounds horrific. Breathing has been difficult since yesterday the Dr was aware of it. But I'm thinking I'll ring 111 shortly just to see what they say. I just know what happens when you mention chest pain and pain down arm and didn't want them to send an ambulance when others need it.well aware it's likely to be linked to the pneumonia just wondering if anyone else had had it.

Gazelda · 17/10/2018 13:42

Are you able to make your own way to A&E?

BrazzleDazzleDay · 17/10/2018 14:01

Granted it wasn't much fun, still isn't but best be seen to and fixed properly. Try take small shallow breaths to keep the pain down. Take care

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 17/10/2018 14:29

Make the call now, you'll be on for a while.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/10/2018 14:32

I'd ring 111 now tbh OP. Hope you're ok.

saddnessinseptember · 17/10/2018 16:30

OP frankly you are being a bit stupid. You have diagnosed pneumonia - the GP TOLD YOU to ring 111 or get emergency appointment if things changed or got worse...THEY HAVE! You haven’t done either of those things...BE SENSIBLE ring 111 NOW! if they ring an ambulance for you it’s because they (with more knowledge than you) have assesses the situation and feel it’s granted. 2 of us have suggested your lung maybe collapsing and you still haven’t rung 111...

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/10/2018 16:58

Bit harsh sad. Hopefully the OP's absence means she's phoned 111 and is on her way to be looked at. Let us know how you are OP.
