to ask about who your baby takes after?

I'm mixed race, with very similar complexion to Alicia Keys (maybe a bit lighter even). Green eyes and very Afro dark hair. DP has bright blonde hair, blue eyes and very fair skin.

I'm so curious to know what our baby will look like as we are SO different. One thing I'm most curious to know about is their complexion and hair as this is where me and DP are polar opposites.

Anyone out there with kids... were they a mixture of both of you? Take after one parent in particular?

Can't wait to see what our little one looks like!

I have dark curly hair and green eyes, DP has ginger hair and brown eyes. Our children have straight blonde hair and blue eyes.

Their features are a mixture of us both.

loopylass13 · 17/10/2018 10:27

Ex is mixed race.

Our child looks over all more like me (sorry kid!!) but she has more olive tones in skin and hair about 3 shades darker than mine. Blue eyed. I can see his nose and dimples on her face.

I think no matter what she looked like, I still would have considered her perfect :)

EllieBulb · 17/10/2018 10:31

@RonniePickering who knew red and dark could = blonde, and green and brown could = blue. Really interesting.

@loopylass13 my DP has really strong features. My features are much softer so I suspect they'll take after him. I couldn't care less either way, as you say! Happy and healthy is all we wish for :)

DS has always looked like his dad- brown eyes and hair, where I’m red haired with green eyes. He’s also very tall, and I’m pretty short. He’s much more like me personality wise though.

He’s 31.

DollyRose · 17/10/2018 10:38

I remember wandering what our little one would look like.
Partner is mixed race ( white/ black)
He has brown mixed afro hair and brown eyes
I have blonde hair quite pale with blue eyes
Our son is literally a mix of both. So brown curly hair hazel eyes and olive skin but has my shape eyes and nose but partners lips and structure/height.

I find though when one parent is mixed race the baby can inherit so many different features. My son's cousin ( on partners side) is the same with mixed race mum and mixed race dad but has bright blue eyes pale skin and blonde curly hair.

Smile

Husband is mixed white and Asian, I am white with mousey hair. 2 daughters. One has dark hair, dark eyes and olive skin. The other has very pale blond hair, blue eyes and porcelain skin. Genetics is fascinating.

mrsnec · 17/10/2018 10:40

Dh and I have the same hair colour. Dark blonde. He has hazel eyes and mine are blue. Dd has green eyes and ds the same as mine.

However in terms of features my dd looks more like my aunts and my cousins than she does me and on my dad's side whereas I look more like my mum.

My ds only has my eyes apart from that he looks like dh's nan and haa mad curly hair like she does and she's the only member of the family on either side to have it.

My point is you may need to go even further back in the family to think about where they may get their looks from!

EllieBulb · 17/10/2018 10:41

@Shockers I'm sort of hoping for this! DP is gorgeous and I'm definitely more laid back than him (grumpy sod )

@DollyRose absolutely! I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. All same parents. We all look so different!

@OhWifey really fascinating. I love that me and DP are so different looking, as we literally have no idea what DC will look like. He has a daughter already so I'm hoping they look at least a little like her. I'm sure they will as she is a spit of him!

Son has only my features, but dad’s blonde hair.
Daughter has only dad’s features, but my brown hair.

One of my friends is blonde, with pale skin. She had a son with a man who is mixed race. They have one son, who has blonde, straight hair, brown eyes and big lips.

Another friend is white and has 2 daughters with an African american woman. One daughter is very pale skinned, with freckles, very light blue eyes and blonde, Afro hair. The other daughter looks African American, not mixed race.

You never know what you are doing to get!

EllieBulb · 17/10/2018 10:42

@mrsnec if they look like my dad or gran I'll be happy as they were both models in their younger days! 😆

You're right though, I look a great deal like my aunt. Nothing like my mum!

@Ansumpasty sounds like my family. We all have the same parents but look entirely different from one another!

DP is mixed - Mexican/white British with almost black hair, medium toned skin, dark brown eyes, looks exactly like his Mexican dad. I'm white with brown eyes and brown hair.

DS1 has blonde hair and blue eyes, like DM and MIL, he looks more like DB and SIL than me or DP 😂

DS2 has dark brown hair and eyes, and looks like me as a baby.

I love genetics, with such wide gene pools the features can sometimes be a bit unpredictable. It's fascinating 😊

EllieBulb · 17/10/2018 10:57

@mildshock definitely fascinating. We both have light eyes (mine are green and my parents both have dark brown eyes - weird eh!) so I'm not expecting anything predictable!

Parents who look very different from each other usually produce stunning children.

Interested in how Harry and Meghan's baby will look.

TheWiseWomansFear · 17/10/2018 12:15

I have a brunette blue eyed mother and a dark hair, dark eyes Mediterranean father.

My sister was ginger with green eyes and I was blonde with grey eyes.

Bond0O7 · 17/10/2018 12:43

I'm Indian brown with black hair and brown eyes and hubby is white with blond hair and blue eyes. Our daughter has my big eyes but they are green and is very white like her dad doesn't look one bit Indian 😂 may change colour as she is older but it's crazy how all these genes work!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 17/10/2018 12:52

My mum cried when I was born because I looked like her mother and they didn't get on! I seem to take turns favouring various rellies on DMs side in my features but I have same colouring as DF (who is a rare blonde in his darked haired family).

Friend has a Welsh mum & an Italian dad & very much favours his side with her skin tones and hair colouring bar a fleeting facial resemblance to her mum. People have assumed she is Spanish, Greek, Iranian, Israeli, mixed race-asian amongst others! Until you know her Italian surname she looks like she could be from anywhere and people do ask.

My friend who mixed Filipina-Lebanese very much favours her Filipina DM in terms of features but has slightly lighter skin tones like her dad and says she thinks her hair is more like female relatives on his side. Her brother is the spit of his Filipino uncle in every way.

Both girls just beautiful naturally anyway Smile

Fatted · 17/10/2018 12:55

I always thought our DC would take my colouring, dark hair and dark eyes. DH is dark blond and blue eyes.

DS1 is a red head with blue eyes. He looks the spitting image of his dad.

DS2 has blonde hair and dark brown eyes. He looks more like me.

Smileysmileycarolsmilie · 17/10/2018 14:05

Could be either the bio Mum or Dad really, got no idea & I don’t particularly think about it.

We had to use donors.

0lgaDaPolga · 17/10/2018 15:27

I have blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin.

Dh is British origin but inexplicably dark. Olive skin, dark hair and eyes. Most people assume he is Mediterranean or Middle Eastern.

Our baby has my features but more his dads colouring than mine. Not quite as dark but more towards dh’s colouring than mine. Expecting baby #2 in a few weeks so I will be interested to see if he is similar or different.

Moominfan · 17/10/2018 15:30

I'm mixed think Mel b complexion. Looser curls though. My partner is mixed he's more olive skinned with light brown eyes and wavy hair. Baby was pale when born and bald. Now a tanned looking toddler with ringlet curls light brown hair. I dread the day he shaves them or straightens then

DontCallMeCharlotte · 17/10/2018 16:06

I don't have children but I know two couples where the women are very attractive but the men, er, aren't. Both couples have two children, a boy and girl, and all the children look the absolute image of their fathers.

Another couple I know have a son who was his mother's mini-me when he was a little boy but is now in his twenties and is now the spit of his dad.

I'm one of five. Parents had dark hair and brown eyes but quite fair skin. Four of us have fair skin with blue or brown eyes and mid brown hair. The fifth has brown eyes, olive skin and very dark brown hair - she actually looks Indian. But she has Dad's features so no shenanighans are suspected!

Also intrigued to see what Harry & Meghan's baby will look like (much like the OP's I would think?).
