Fit/seizure after drinking

Hello,

I don't know who to really ask (apart from the doc of course) I don't know anyone that this has happened to.

I don't normally drink but stupidly had a binge one night and had the worst hangover the next day. I tried to sleep it off but ended up having a seizure , which I was aware of. I had no control of my body, couldn't open my eyes, my hands seized up painfully and it took a while to get me out of it. I felt much better when it was over, just very exhausted. I had friends with me who helped me regulate my breathing and kept me safe.

I was told, and I've looked it up, that this happens due to alcohol/sugar levels and dehydration, all of which applied.

I haven't felt all well since - I'm utterly drained, I feel dizzy on and off and going hot and cold even as I type this. It's been 5 days since this happened now :(

I know I have to head to the doctor so I'm not asking whether i should go or not, but does anyone have experience of this?

How old are you? One-off seizures can happen, particularly in young women and as you say, alcohol consumption is a risk factor. I had one once when younger although I have no memory of it. Check with your doctor and try not to worry - it's possible that anxiety is causing some of your current symptoms. The doctor will do all the necessary checks so you don't have to panic.

Also feeling fatigued and strange is normal post-seizure.

You need to see a gp and not to drive for six months and until dvla says you can.

I’ve had one seizure in my life- the morning after drinking heavily when I was 18.

I’d look after yourself with hydration, nutrition and sleep, and don’t get hammered again.

I doubt this was a "proper" seizure - there is no consciousness or awareness during those type of seizures. Definitely worth talking to your GP though

I don’t drive so that’s no issue

I honestly can’t say what it was to be honest but having experience with my daughters seizures it was very akin to that except I was aware and remember, which confused me at the time as I know that’s not the case. I just remember looking down at my body completely throwing itself about and I had no control. My hands went grey and clamped and eventually I couldn’t move or open my eyes. My heart was racing and I could barely breathe, I was alternating between sweating and freezing.

I can only imagine I’m still whacked a bit from it. :(

Fucking stupid to have drank so much. It’s really opened my eyes. Im 32 not bloody 18 anymore.

You need to go to the doctor. You should always get checked out after a seizure especially if it's your first.

Sounds like a partial seizure - you can remain aware during these and they commonly cause sudden sweating.

Hi hun,
My grandad is 60, he has been a heavy drinker all his life, 15 pints at the pub every day, hes always worked as a builder and has never let his drinking get in the way of work ect.
So a few year ago he had one of these seizures and they said it was drinking, he hasnt stopped drinking so ofcourse he had another, he walked out of the hospital still with all of thethat tubes and needles hanging out and got my mum who is a gp to remove everything for him as he hated the hospital that much. He went straight back to the pub and it happen again. We have put it down to drinking and sometimes happens at when stressful points of life. When his mum died.
I have personally had thoughts of epilepsy and he wont go back to the gp to get it checked out.. cant make him. My thoughts :)
