To not give up my second job despite dh request

Redleafblower · 16/10/2018 13:23

Name changed.

Disclaimers/pre-empting.

  1. I know some of you will think this is gross. My post isn't about that.
  2. I consider it a business and comply with everything that entails. I describe it as selling second hand clothes.
  3. It's through a third party site so I'm only known by my username. They don't know any of my real details and will never meet me or have private contact details.
  4. Only my husband knows irl.

A few years back I started selling my used knickers as a second job. We needed the money and although he was very reluctant, my dh agreed. I didn't ask his permission as such but I wanted his ok.

It's been slow but I've built up a good client base. Although it doesn't bring in a fortune and we no longer need the money, it is good for frivolities. Last year it paid for a holiday and a few day trips etc. It certainly helps us have things we wouldn't otherwise. To me, it's easy money.

My dh has decided he wants me to stop because he doesn't like it. I don't see the issue, it's not his thing but everyone has their own kinks. He wouldn't have an issue if I worked in Ann Summers or whatever. There's a market for it, and it's very little effort for my part and has zero impact on anyone else.

If I stopped my regulars would go somewhere else and there's been a big increase in people doing this so it would be tough to build it back up if I decided to go back to it.

I think we would miss the money.

I've not refused but I pointed out the benefits and that it doesn't affect him and no one knows. I'm descreet about it and I don't have dirty underwear lying around around or anything like that. All he sees is the packages ready to post. He doesn't even see me wrap them. They don't smell. He does sometimes help me with sorting out the financial aspect.

So who is being unreasonable, dh for asking me to stop something which doesn't negatively impact on him at all or am I not respecting his wishes over a bit of a weird subject?

OP posts:

You have regular customers? How many pairs of used underwear does one guy need?

I can actually see both sides of this. It IS seedy, but it's also harmless.

TheWiseWomansFear · 16/10/2018 15:19

I think he's entitled to be uncomfortable but it's your body and your pants and he has no ownership of that.
You're entitled to carry on as you wish but is it worth upsetting him and maybe ruining your marriage?

I think he's being an annoying prude but I think my DP might be the same.

AngelsSins · 16/10/2018 15:20

I’m really confused as to why it’s ok for men to wank over pictures and videos of other women when they’re in relationships (or even visit strip clubs), but not ok for women in relationships to put some worn knickers in a Jiffy bag and send them off.

Sounds like a double standard to me, and all about what men want/are comfortable with.

Not saying your partner does either of those things by the way OP.

Lost5stone · 16/10/2018 15:23

and selling for £15-£20 a pair

Wondering if they expect nice lacy pants at £10 a pair or if you can send black cotton from a Primark multipack Grin

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 16/10/2018 15:24

AngelsSins makes a good point. By that logic it would depend on your husband’s activities. Does he watch porn? If he does then is has no leg to stand on and YANBU.

If he doesn’t and has never wanked over other women’s used underwear then YABU.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 16/10/2018 15:30

I can see where he is coming from, every time he sees you in your underwear or gets intimate with you he knows someone somewhere is wanking over you or will soon be wanking into the knickers you are wearing, so instead of having his wife in front of him he is seeing wank foder. I can imagine it's extremely humiliating. If you are happy for him to think of you that way and for you to treat him like that then just continue.

LagunaBubbles · 16/10/2018 15:34

hope you've been declaring your profits and paying tax on it

Haha, only on MN could a thread about something as grim as selling grotty encrusted used knickers involve questioning the posters tax responsibilities to HMRC! Grin

tenbob · 16/10/2018 15:36

The posters who think pants must be 'grotty' and 'crusty' after being worn - I think you should step away from MN and get yourself a GP appointment pronto...

LagunaBubbles · 16/10/2018 15:38

Nope. Used pants are grotty and will have something on them otherwise the really odd men that want them would buy brand new knickers. It's the secretions and/or smell these nuts are paying for after all!

Hidillyho · 16/10/2018 15:48

I too am intrigued by this. I’m not saying that I would do it but if there is a market for it (which there obviously is) and there isn’t a risk to your safety - eg posting pictures of yourself wearing them - then I don’t see the harm (but do get where your DH is coming from as it’s other people using your underwear to get their kicks).

On another note, couldn’t they use your DNA at the scene of a crime? They could leave your knickers next to the axe they used to murder their cheating husband (or is this me watching too many CSI programs)

In regards to your husband - is this a make or break situation?

Do you declare it for tax reasons, I want to know what you would put your occupation down as for HMRC Grin

Ameliarose16 · 16/10/2018 15:48

I don't see the problem it's easy money!

ohshitonit · 16/10/2018 16:03

I used to do this, my husband had a problem with it but I ignored him. I only stopped because I couldn't be bothered.

I agree about me watching porn, if they do that and think this is bad....??

Saltypeanuts · 16/10/2018 16:18

I wonder if there is a market for skids in boxers? My DS could make a fortune!

BartholinsSister · 16/10/2018 16:26

Let your DH wear them for a bit before posting them.
Fair's fair.

Pissedoffdotcom · 16/10/2018 16:34

Lost5Stone so far i have come across a range from 'sexy' pants & thongs to boxer types. So anything is possible if you dress it up right!

hoping nobody peeks at my search history today

AngelsSins · 16/10/2018 16:42

he knows someone somewhere is wanking over you or will soon be wanking into the knickers you are wearing, so instead of having his wife in front of him he is seeing wank foder. I can imagine it's extremely humiliating

So is it also “extremely humiliating” for a woman to have a partner who has been wanking to other women having sex in porn or gawping at strippers? Or is this just all about coddling the ever fragile male ego?

SD1978 · 16/10/2018 16:57

I think he is being u reasonable. He was happy enough when it was necessary to take the money and use it for the family. To now morally develop an objection seems a bit off. As long as your face and name aren't included, I don't see the issue, or why he would now have an issue.

Conseulabananahammock · 16/10/2018 17:45

pissedoffdotcom my search history is questionable for today too 🤣

PhilODox · 16/10/2018 17:46

Like hidillyho I wonder hugely about future DNA techniques and "innocents" being framed for various things, or DNA extracted and used for something...

And presumably OP, people aren't paying just for knickers, are they? Don't you have to masturbate wearing them first, before sending?

bubbles092 · 16/10/2018 17:53

Please tell me this is a joke ...

salterello1 · 16/10/2018 18:51

I think I must be incredibly naive!!! OMG this actually happens in real life?? I thought it only happened in Orange is the New Black!

Godimsounimaginative · 16/10/2018 18:58

I can see both sides tbh.
The big issue is that he was fine for you to "degrade" yourself (I don't think it degrades you but I think he probably does) to pay the bills and a few holidays but now isn't. Like it's ok when it suits him.
At the end of the day, I'd side with you, but you can't force him to be comfortable with it and sometimes we have to make compromises for the person we love.
So long as he's otherwise a lovely, considerate, non-controlling, compromising partner.

Butterymuffin · 16/10/2018 19:08

Thought this was shoes when I saw the title. I've read about that before on here

Angels Sins makes a very good point. Why is this so unacceptable when men in relationships often see no problem with wanking over actual photos/videos of other women?

Poisongirl81 · 16/10/2018 19:17

This is hilarious 😂 is this on ebay? Give more info

donajimena · 16/10/2018 19:32

I'm still wondering what someone will pay for apple catchers...
