To wish there were tights in the world that don’t bloody fall down?

Winter is coming, and with it my propensity to live in tights. I love them... but I hate them, because no matter what brand or size, they all work themselves down until the gusset is hanging at mid-thigh and I am waddling like a penguin. Leggings don’t to this, so why do tights? I have seriously considered putting extra pants on over them to keep the buggers up as, in a dress, you can’t even pull the damn things up without sloping off to the bathroom.

Please help me mumsnet - how do I keep my stupid tights up???

Snag tights, they don't budge

VanGoghsDog · 01/11/2018 10:35

@Ollivander84. Except on me, they just fell down as I walked. Had to hoik them five times between Euston and St P which is about a fifteen minutes walk.

Ollivander84 · 01/11/2018 10:45

I got the wrong size the first time and they did but they sent me out free pairs to check and they're great now I have a size bigger than I though I needed!

ladycarlotta · 01/11/2018 10:49

Heist. I'm still wearing mine now I'm 22 weeks pregnant. They're great.

londonmummy1966 · 01/11/2018 14:49

M&S Autograph Velvet Opaques buy a size up as they shrink a bit in the wash. Hideously expensive but they do stay up. Also they don't ladder (or at least not on me - sometimes dds nick them when they've run out in which case they are bound to be laddered by the time they get to school...)

DaphneDiligaf · 01/11/2018 15:18

Another vote for Snag tights, absolutely fabulous tights.

Snag tights are total game changers, they are really good.

Interesting - they told me I might need a smaller size (before asking what size I actually am and when I told them they agreed D was the right size). I asked if in that case their size chart is incorrect and they said no, it's right and "no-one else has ever had a problem" - they refunded when I asked for a returns label since I don't see why I should pay to return something that doesn't do what their very clear advertising says it does!

They didn't offer to send any to try. But that's probably because I fit exactly into the D, in theory, so no idea how they would decide which ones I needed!

Dickybow321 · 01/11/2018 16:07

You are just buying too small a size. Use the chart on the back.

I'm going to try Snag tights though, to see what all the fuss is about Smile

seekingclarity · 01/11/2018 16:32

@amicissimma I agree stockings are great, but DH likes them a little too much, so wearing them is always a bit risky

Patronising much?

Obviously I look at this. Obviously I buy the size they say fits. But, you know what, people come in all different shapes and it's the shape that is the issue, not the 'size'.

Most tights roll down from the top, but Snag tights just crept down so the gusset was between my thighs.

If you want to try the Snag tights and turn out to be a D, I'd be happy to send you one of the unworn pairs I have to try out, despite you being so condescending to another woman.

Holdingonbarely · 01/11/2018 16:45

This is a revelation! I am constantly pulling my tights up. It’s so annoying
Goes to check out snag

Catmum26 · 01/11/2018 16:50

i always buy my tights 2 or 3 sizes too big as it’s the only way to stop this happening. they get all bunched up round the ankles but i can deal with that if it means i’m not walking round with the gusset round my knees 😂

Dreamqueen · 01/11/2018 16:56

VanGogh I have exactly the same probem no matter which brand I try. They all start out ok & the next thing I know is that I have a roll of tights below my belly. I'm 140lbs with a straight up and down shape hence no hips to keep them up.

librarylover53 · 01/11/2018 17:03

My M&S ones never do this (the one time I swapped to Next tights was awful though - never again!). Have you tried theirs? I pay a little extra for their body sensor ones and love them.

Blobby10 · 01/11/2018 17:05

amicissimma same here!! Could never find tights to fit and started wearing stockings and suspender belt in my twenties. Now fifty and still use them!

TooManyPaws · 01/11/2018 17:15

I used to wear stockings when I was slim but now I wear leggings and ankle boots. I found that another set of knickers over the top of tights was a perfect breeding ground ground for thrush and they would just roll down between the two pairs of knickers anyway.

Invisimamma · 01/11/2018 18:39

Just bit the bullet and ordered 3pairs from snag. Fingers crossed these don't end up at my knees by 10am.

twofingerstoEverything · 08/12/2018 18:47

On the back of this thread, I ordered 3 pairs from Snag. They were fine around the house, but as soon as I went out and did 'proper' walking, ie. around the shops, they began to creep lower and lower and lower... Really disappointed.

MissMalice · 08/12/2018 18:49

Another vote for Snag tights.

Chocolatebourbons · 08/12/2018 18:51

Go a size up and wear knickers over them. Or wear stockings instead.

JovialNickname · 08/12/2018 19:01

You need a TIGHTS UP belt available on amazon (about £6). A very slim, stretchy elastic belt that is invisible under clothing and really comfy. It has a "grippy" underside that stops tights, leggings, yoga pants and anything else falling down. I used to permanently be hoiking up tights and leggings, I was barely seen without my dress/coat/top/whatever bunched up under my arms pulling my bottoms up!! Wearing one of these meant my tights stayed up all day, I really recommend them.

JovialNickname · 08/12/2018 19:03

PS I don't work for tights up by the way, they're just really good!

Reallybadidea · 08/12/2018 19:05

Primark tights stay nice and snug round my midriff, even when doing lots of walking. They seem to last forever too.
