Parallel parking

Am I crazy or am I just rude?

I rushed today to take my 6 year old to their swimming lesson. There’s only on street parking near by and I saw somebody drive straight into the end of a marked on-street parking bay. There was room for 2 cars but she stopped right on the end. So I pulled just past her and reversed into the space in front. I think at some point maybe she reversed back but she didn’t need to I had enough space.

I then rushed to get us all out of the car and as I did I heard the women near my car say “that’s the last time I do that” I wasn’t really sure what she was talking about (I definitely did not come near to hitting her car and did not need her to reverse back) and stupidly thought she was apologising for not just pulling forwards initially so I could easily pull in behind her so replied “oh don’t worry about it” and she replied “I’m not worried, why would I be worried”. I was by this point practically in the swimming pool building and I heard her say loudly “so ungrateful and not even a thank you.” Now to be fair I hadn’t thanked her mostly because I was in too much of a hurry to think so I replied “I’m really grateful, thank you very much” and I hurried on in.

But the more I think about it the more I don’t get why she was so passive aggressive. She just had to pull forward and I could have driven straight behind her. Surely most people move up like that when parking on the street? Am I being crazy? What did I miss?

Maybe she was a really bad parker and wanted to be on the end so no one would be behind her and she could get out by reversing as much as she wanted? And assumed you would be the same so gave you space and was mortally insulted you weren't showing undying gratitude

If I have to get away quickly I'll choose to park at the end of a space, as I've had a couple of situations where I've been majorly boxed in because the cars both sides have parked within inches of me.
Don't do it often, but having had to wait for someone to get back when I had a hospital appointment was somewhat stressful, especially as it was an hour park. Car in front left less than 2" in front of me and the car behind was within 6".

I make sure I park right at the back.
