No and no, I don't have any tattoos, ut I were to get one I would in the words of a heavily tattooed friend, don't get any which you couldn't cover up of you had to go in front of a judge.

SuchAToDo · 13/10/2018 22:27

Don't have one, and I personally wouldn't have one..I don't have anything against people that do, and some can look striking and pretty, but it's alot different having it on your face to having it on a body part that can be covered with clothes on days you don't want it on display..plus people (not all, but some) judge on appearances and it may affect future employment choices if you have to attend job interviews, as if they have one with facial tattoos, one without..both equally qualified, they may be inclined to choose the untattooed candidate over the facial tattooed one

Queenofmyownheart · 13/10/2018 22:29

I have tattoos, definitely wouldn't get one on my face though. I've just never seen a facial tattoo where I've though gosh that looks amazing 😂

KC225 · 13/10/2018 22:34

No, they are naff and unsightly in general. And despite what people say they 'date' quickly. Dolphins and stars early nineties. Slave bangles on the upper arm
mid nineties to late nineties, Chinese/Japanese script early noughties. Sleeves will go the same way.

Face tattoo - screams poor judgement now but in 20 years time ....

ChicagoLil · 13/10/2018 22:37

Do you think David Beckham will regret his tattoos?

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 13/10/2018 22:39

You mean like cut here around the neck? Or fuck off on the forehead?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 13/10/2018 22:40

😳

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 13/10/2018 22:43

warning - it is the sun

www.thesun.co.uk/news/4800875/rogues-gallery-of-terrible-face-tattoos-that-will-guarantee-a-life-on-the-dole/

the only face tattoos I have seen are basic- so home done or in older people- prison.

AmabelleOnabike · 13/10/2018 22:43

I like tattoos but never ones that can't be covered up. I think there is something care less about a facial or neck or hand tattoos. I'm not sure what the word is but like they have nothing to lose, they do not think the face they present to the world will ever matter. I don't think I'm explaining it well and I try not to judge people on their appearance but find facial tattoos and neck tattoos I cannot overome. Maybe it's violent connotations and the only facially tattooed people I have come across have been openly violent. So, no, i would never have one

Samcro · 13/10/2018 22:45

i love tatts
but hate facial ones/

tillytoodles1 · 13/10/2018 22:49

It's just that today I saw a woman in the supermarket, wearing pyjamas, with a tattoo on her forehead , going down her face and ending up on her chin. Maybe it's me being judgemental, but it was dark blue and looked bloody awful.

WhodidyousayIshouldbe · 13/10/2018 22:52

It's illegal to tattoo someone's face (although strangely it's not illegal to have a face tattoo).

I imagine it's really painful as your face isn't very fleshy.

Seniorcitizen1 · 13/10/2018 23:05

Tattoos are in my view low class - why would anyone deliberately disfigure themselves. I will not employ anyone with a visible tattoo

TheDowagerCuntess · 13/10/2018 23:07

I work in the public sector and one of the most senior officials in our organisation has a full facial tattoo.

He's Māori and it's tā moko.

HOUSE! And so early in the thread!

StoneofDestiny · 13/10/2018 23:45

Don't have any tattoos and would never have one. Having a face tattoo is the height of idiocy and must limit your employment choices.
(Wearing PJ's in the supermarket while sporting a facial tattoo - she clearly has issues)

TheDowagerCuntess · 13/10/2018 23:47

If you employ people in a public-facing role that's fair(-ish) enough.

But if you employ people behind the scenes to, for example, think and use their brains, then I suggest you're possibly not best-placed to be making serious decisions.

And I say this a non-tattooed person who'll never get one.

RedneckStumpy · 13/10/2018 23:55

I wouldn’t get one, however there are some tribes where it is common place, and if that’s your background then that’s fine.

Fishandthechips · 14/10/2018 00:01

Ive seen some (small and usually around the temple area) that ive thought looked really good and suited the persons style. I personally wouldnt get one on my face though. Life is too unpredictable and I could never guarantee that it wouldnt become a hinderance one day.

HerRoyalNotness · 14/10/2018 00:06

My aunt has just got one on her chin. It’s a traditional tattoo from our culture. A bit confrontational and I was taken aback at first, but it’s getting more common as people become more in touch with their heritage

HerRoyalNotness · 14/10/2018 00:07

Oh and she works as a social worker, very much in the public eye

CherLooksYoungerThanMe · 14/10/2018 00:08

I wouldn't have one on my face. I'd get the sack. Fair enough.

On other parts of the body I think they can look lovely. But face? Never seen a nice one.

RedPandaMama · 14/10/2018 00:09

I have a few tattoos, love tattoos and would have loads if I could afford to get them done really well. However I would NEVER get them on my hands or face. It's just an instant jobstopper and too much of a hindrance trying to climb career/academic ladders. People shouldn't judge on that kind of thing as it doesn't stop the person being intelligent or hardworking but to be honest, they just don't look great. They also don't last well due to our faces being touched a lot, covered in dirt/makeup, washed daily or multiple times daily, exfoliated weather and sun beaten etc so they tend to look awfully faded and patchy after a few years. And I personally don't like them. I think Post Malone is gorgeous but find his facial tattoos a turn off, for example.

I always think 'you do you' about these things though, and if people like them and are willing to deal with consequences then go for it.

As a non tattooed person I wouldn't want to work for someone who holds such shallow and idiotic views.

I am an academic and of my colleagues under 40 I'd say at least half have visible tattoos (by which I mean sleeves), wrists, ankles, legs rather than face or neck. All of whom are educated to PhD level.
