To think you shouldn’t ride a bike in a playground

Genuinely not sure if IABU.

Was at the playground earlier with 21 month old dd. She was toddling around between play equipment. There was a, I guess, 4 year old on a bike. He was pretty fast and at one point almost ran into dd. I was with her but about 6 foot behind. Obviously at 21 months she was oblivious. It was close enough for both me and his mum to call out.

I didn’t say anything but when chatting to DH later we thought it wasn’t the place for riding a bike with lots of toddlers running around. Surely the place for the bike is the actual park, not the playground?

Yanbu, bikes shouldn’t be in the playground area. There’s some kids that ride their little balance bikes around my local playground. It’s frightens the life out of me when they suddenly zoom in front of the swing that I’m pushing.

Kidssendingmenuts · 13/10/2018 20:55

They've been banned at the school my kids go to for that reason. As soon as you come through the gates you have to dismount. X

Thanks. It was the kids playground area of a small park not a school playground.

Wish I’d been more assertive and said something, nicely, to her now.

A kids playground? As in a park? You have a problem with a 4yo riding a bike in a park?

Jakethekid · 13/10/2018 21:01

The park is the place for a bike, not the play ground area.

I assume op means the bit of the park that has swings, slides etc bus. They’re often fenced off and have signs saying dogs/ smoking/ bikes not allowed.

Dontfartbackinanger · 13/10/2018 21:04

Not the actual park. You know the fenced off bit with swings etc. Where you’re not allowed dogs.

Of course bikes in the park is ok!

Yes in the playground bit. He has the rest of the park to ride his bike surely?

Ours are not separated by fencing. Sorry.
