... And believe I can actually do it this time!?

Tbf I have done SW successfully and lost weight before, trouble is I gained it all again.

Anyone have any helpful SW friendly motivation /inspirational comments to help a serial - failer at this woe!

That's the beauty of the SW business model, it's not sustainable so clients spend loads of money, lose the weight, put it back on, come back and spend lots more money.

Portion size, cut back on carbs, really understand what you eat by keeping a food diary and exercise. Slow but sustainable x

GooseDownCreek · 13/10/2018 15:58

That's why it's such a profitable business. I have a friend who I've known for 12 years. In all that time she's been going to slimming world. Never noticed any difference in her weight.

TomHardysNextWife · 13/10/2018 16:01

Don't do it, seriously.

My mum has been doing it for nearly 40 years and weighs the same as when she started. I'd be terrified to add up what she's spent over the years.

Have you stopped to consider that maybe the "problem" isn't you, it's them? Find a way to live, move, eat that is sustainable and joyful for you, and work on learning to love yourself regardless of the number on the scale. THAT imo would be reasonable.

Takiwatanga · 13/10/2018 16:05

Thank you, cat lady. But I have zero will power. I can't do this alone.

I lost 6 stone kept it off for over 5 years then piled it on again - I think it's like all these diets, sustainable if you stick to it!

CrazyDuchess · 13/10/2018 16:06

^^ This. A million times this

MessyBun247 · 13/10/2018 16:06

You don’t have to do it alone but Sw isn’t the answer, it never works long term. It just leads to bingeing and anxiety around food.

AamdC · 13/10/2018 16:09

Im doing slimming world at the moment have been doing it for about 5 weeks, it isnt a faddy diet its a life style change and i am losing weight

liquidrevolution · 13/10/2018 16:09

Rebelfit. Just check out the Facebook page. Also Joe Wicked.

SW is a model for making money and nothing else.

PurpleDaisies · 13/10/2018 16:11

It’s worked for lots of people I know. You have to think of it as a long term change.

What has gone wrong before?

triwarrior · 13/10/2018 16:13

Exactly what others have said; SW (and WW for that matter) are designed to have you succeed, fail and come back for more.) Good lord, look at Oprah - she's a part owner of WW and still overweight!

I would recommend looking up intermittent fasting and the work of Jason Fung. Read "The Obesity Code". Eat keto and fast. It'll drop off you.

Takiwatanga · 13/10/2018 16:14

Purple, weekends, sticking to sensible eating of a weekend depresses me!

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 13/10/2018 16:15

I find SW a big fucking con, but I dutifully go along every week and pay my fiver as it's the only thing that keeps me on track [paying someone to weigh me is the only way I've managed to stick to healthy eating!!]

I actually follow a low GI plan and use MFP, approx 1300 cals per day!

I think the whole premise of SW wrong but ssshhh!!

PippaRabbit · 13/10/2018 16:16

I agree that SW and groups like WW are only out to make money.

Calorie counting and plenty of exercise will help you lose weight.

cardibach · 13/10/2018 16:16

AamdC and Purple By worked do you mean significant weight was lost and kept off for over 5 years? Because there aren’t many it’s worked for by those criteria.
I second rebelfit.

Jengnr · 13/10/2018 16:19

I’ve been doing it since January. I’m almost 3 stone down. It’s a massive lifestyle change (but of course it is - if you didn’t need to make changes you wouldn’t do it) but it is sustainable and if you commit to it you will succeed.

I’ve also recently started running and the two running together have worked really well. I’m 3 dress sizes smaller and feel bloody fabulous.

You’ve got to want to do it and commit to doing it though. If you don’t you’re just spunking a fiver each week for nothing.

PurpleDaisies · 13/10/2018 16:19

Purple By worked do you mean significant weight was lost and kept off for over 5 years?

Yes, my aunt lost six stone eight years ago and another friend lost eight stone about five years ago. Lots of others lost a stone or two more recently. I lost a stone doing it ten years ago and occasionally put a bit on but it comes off by being a bit more sensible.

Hooli · 13/10/2018 16:21

Of course it isn't a con. It works if you stick to it. Just like any plan or lifestyle change which results in a calorie deficit works.

But people get complacent, they have a weekend 'off' then it turns into a week, then you gain a lb or two and you feel shit so you carry on.

YANBU to try it again (for the 100th time) but what plans do you have in place to ensure you succeed this time?

bellsbuss · 13/10/2018 16:24

I know about 10 mums at school who have been on and off it at least 7 years. I've not met one person who has done it and kept the weight off.

Takiwatanga · 13/10/2018 16:39

Hooli. I have none. I'm at a loss, seriously considering hypnosis...

HughGrantsHair · 13/10/2018 16:41

I don't think Slimming World is designed to make you fail and keep coming back, it just cashes in on all the people who cannot keep to a healthy diet.

Someone who can't stick to slimming world for over 5 years won't be able to stick to calorie counting or fasting either.

PrincessScarlett · 13/10/2018 16:48

If you are returning to SW multiple times then this method is not working for you and they are making more and more money from you.

Do you exercise at all? Are you a member of a gym? Lots of gyms offer nutrition/dieting help and if you are going to pay out each month you might as well try a gym. You won't have to go it alone then either. Do your research as a lot of the big gyms won't necessarily offer what smaller more independent gyms do. I belonged to a small gym and they offered all sorts of help with weight loss and diet.

Didn't Einstein say that insanity was about doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results?
