to find youtube grocery hauls so addictive?! Help me break the habit!

So, back in the day I have to admit with my head held in shame that I used to watch/follow some "mummy vloggers". I then wised up to the fact the whole thing is largely a con; following advertisements for entertainment makes no sense! And given the whole child protection/over exposure/issues around consent etc of these vloggers' children I was put right off.

However, when doing the weekly meal plan, if stuck, I will at times do a quick google eg. October meal plan. This usually brings up link to websites or youtube videos of grocery hauls/meal plans. And then I get sucked in!

I don't know what it is, there must be some psychology behind it, but I find it utterly addictive watching other people unload their shopping! It's completely ridiculous! (especially as they are usually edited eg they tend to not include certain toiletries etc). Help me break the habit!!

you have too much time on your hands....i hate unloading my own shopping.

Princessmushroom · 13/10/2018 20:12

I love a grocery haul! Especially American ones which is odd because I can’t buy anything

UAEMum · 13/10/2018 20:19

I love this one woman, jenelle or something. She has about 10 kids, lives in middle of nowhere in USA, home schools and is a born again Christian. I have nothing in common with her. My 5 kids seem like a small collection by comparison.
I LOVE watching her grocery shop, unpack the stuff, and especially batch cook. She makes some hideous American style food. Its fascinating hearing that she got 20 yoghurts for 2 dollars 20 at costco.

HollowTalk · 13/10/2018 20:21

What, you watch someone unpack their shopping? Why?

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 13/10/2018 20:22

Well, well, well. I appear to have discovered a new time waster. Thanks op Blush

dingdongdigeridoo · 13/10/2018 20:28

This is amazing. I didn’t realise that every time I unpacked my shopping I missed out on a great opportunity for a YouTube video. The American ones really are quite fascinating and now I’m craving a Twinkie and wondering why I can’t buy ready made breakfast sandwiches in the UK!

Heismyopendoor · 13/10/2018 20:29

Jamerrill? I really like her :)

EachandEveryone · 13/10/2018 20:30

Do I need to watch this before or after I go shopping?

Clutterbugsmum · 13/10/2018 20:31

UAEmum do you mean Jamerrill large family table.

I must admit to doing this to, although I do find American batch cooking a bit odd. Everything seems to include a tin or 3 of condensed soup.

UAEMum · 13/10/2018 20:32

Yes jamerril. She is great. Some of her meals are vile looking though.

Fishandthechips · 13/10/2018 20:35

Im going to confess that I too find these videos really fascinating. I think its because im so utterly terrible at thinking up different meals and trying and failing to find something new that my toddler will eat that I use them as some kind of inspiration. Then I get overly annoyed when youtuber reveals the houmous and carrot sticks that there child will eat. I can only dream of my child eating such things!

UAEMum · 13/10/2018 20:37

Can anyone remember the names of the videos they watch. I fancy watching some tomorrow.

Heismyopendoor · 13/10/2018 20:43

American wise I quite like Jamerrill, family fudge, she’s in her apron, shellys home life, the former Mrs Jones, the wads, and more :)

Have to admit I don’t watch that many UK shopping, cooking type videos, which is funny as I do make YouTube videos myself lol. I won’t be sharing my channel name here but I do do haul videos on my channel and they are very popular. I think people, like myself, are quite nosey :)

buscaution · 13/10/2018 20:45

People watch videos of other people taking out their shopping Confused

Wow. That's another level of weird.

Why on earth?

Bananalanacake · 13/10/2018 20:48

And I am watching Sash Equador on you tube now. I can't decide which is more interesting.

ElainaElephant · 13/10/2018 20:55

Oh don't do this to me.

I currently watch way too many youtube vidoes on van life, van conversions and tiny homes.

I don't need to add to the list!!

Feefeetrixabelle · 13/10/2018 21:33

Try instagram videos of people unpacking pots of slime. Lost a lot of time on them. That and videos of things like needles being made.

Peopleplease · 13/10/2018 21:53

Planner set ups and flip throughs (I dream of a planner looking like some of them) and ‘diaper’ bag packing specifically JuJuBe!!

desperateforsleep2 · 14/10/2018 20:33

UAEmum I tend to watch ones by:
happilyahousewife
akamommy
shesinherapron
They are all American, and I wouldn't eat everything they make, but out of a monthly meal plan there will definitely be some I use. They tend to do youtube videos, and sometimes on their websites/blogs also.

peopleplease I LOVE planner videos, reviews etc
What planner do you use? I've had an Erin Condren for three years, and just bought my first Emily Ley Simplified Planner to start using in Jan '19.

User5trillion · 14/10/2018 20:43

I have an addiction to thrift shop hauls, utterly bonkers and wastes hours. Might have just searched for food shopping hauls!😂

JayDot500 · 15/10/2018 09:32

Yes! YANBU to enjoy these videos!

My dream of owning a US style pantry has come true, so ordered stupid amounts of reduced tinned food to christen it Grin. I also enjoy watching people go through their holiday hauls. It's interesting to see what people buy in foreign countries.

AnonaMouse1 · 15/10/2018 09:36

opendoor are you Claire Witt??

Highly recommend Claire's channel.... she feels like a mumsnetter somehow

Stiddleficks · 15/10/2018 11:30

I’ve just wasted most of the morning Grin
On the plus side I’ve got a rough meal plan in my head for the next two weeks!

Redpriestandmozart · 15/10/2018 11:41

You know what is weird? Not only watching shopping haul videos but carpet washing, fence painting, grass cutting and my new favorite is pressure hosing!! They help me sleep!

desperateforsleep2 · 15/10/2018 12:04

jaydot I'm seriously envious of your pantry, can we please have a pic?!
