To change career?

I’m 27. Since graduating, I’ve worked in a creative industry kind of related to my degree (marketing). I mostly enjoy it, but the pay is poor, and there aren’t a lot of opportunities for progression. In my last role I felt pretty stagnant and undervalued.

After taking a break to travel, I’m now looking for a new job. I have applied for a few roles similar to my old one, but none of them ‘feel’ right. I was actually offered one of the jobs I applied for, but my gut instinct was to turn it down.

I’ve been researching other options, and have found something I think I could be good at. It will be MUCH more high pressure, much more challenging, pretty corporate but with greater earning potential and opportunities for progression. Without even having any experience, I was offered an interview for one of these roles, and I was offered the job yesterday.

Now I have cold feet! I’m worried I may be making a mistake moving from a fun, creative job into a corporate one. Most people do things the other way around! The change of career feels like a huge risk.

Thoughts?

Have you got anything to lose by giving it a go? It's scary but they think you'll be good at it and are willing to take a risk. Worst that could happen is that you find it's not for you. Go for it! Good Luck!

Thanks NWQM.

I guess what I’m really scared of is not enjoying it, and then finding it difficult to get back into my old industry. I’m trying not to worry about it, but it’s difficult! Smile
