I never used to go around with a water bottle, let alone, grab a cup of coffee

every time I went out.
what is it with people having to be constantly Slurping!

the world cannot cope with all the rubbish this causes.

OP posts:

@BeautyGoesToBenidorm: that is amazing! I bet you have the most toned thighs and buttocks in the world. After Mo Farah.

Caprisunorange · 13/10/2018 21:05

And some think a high street coffee shop is a status symbol! Amazing

RedPanda2 · 13/10/2018 21:07

I drink 4 litres a day and I'm not stopping because you don't like it. My bottle is reusable

Delatron · 13/10/2018 21:12

Bloody ridiculous thread. I don’t want to drink instant coffee from a flask. I want a nice flat white (in a reusable cup).

I am an exercise instructor so yes I will drink 2 litres a day and feel better for it. A piddly glass here and there isn’t enough. Your body has got used to drinking so little. Doesn’t mean it’s healthy.

SoyDora · 13/10/2018 21:12

😂 at the thought of a Costa cup being a status symbol.

Herefortheduration · 13/10/2018 21:14

I lived in a very hot place back in the 80’s and had constant access to water by way of drinking fountains and carried a bottle around with me. It’s a habit that was good for me and now I’m in my 50’s I still carry water with me although nowadays my bottle is reusable. Do I care what you think? No!

shrunkenhead · 13/10/2018 21:14

I don't think The OP is having a pop at people drinking water or coffee per se it's the constant need to carry a bottle of Volvic/Evian Costa/Starbucks around with them. I don't have an issue with people who drink from reusable bottles.

April241 · 13/10/2018 21:16

@BumDisease agreed Grin

RoomOfRequirement · 13/10/2018 21:19

The fact you care people want to have a drink of water with them is pretty pathetic honestly. Almost no one drinks enough water per day.

Thatstheendofmytether · 13/10/2018 21:20

Well unless OP is following people around on a daily basis, they have no idea if people are carrying these things constantly.

spugzbunny · 13/10/2018 21:27

I'm breastfeeding so I'm constantly thirsty and constantly knackered so I've got water and usually a coffee or red bull (within safe NHS guidelines blah blah). I do use a metal water bottle 99% of the time though and a reusable cup of coffee from home if I'm driving.

chickedychicked · 13/10/2018 21:41

I always carry water with me, and if I'm out in the morning then a reusable mug of matcha tea as I don't feel awake without it.
we do buy a lot of mineral water as my DC go through a lot of water even when I take their own bottles with me. We don't drink tap water and I do reuse the small plastic bottles we buy quite a lot.

limitedperiodonly · 13/10/2018 21:45

But most of us aren't fitness instructors or away from a clean and reliable source of water for 11 hours a day.

People have asked: 'is it bothering you?' and yes, it does bother me to have to stand in a queue of 10 stupid people slowly filling their 2ltr bottles from the communal dispenser in the office rather than making random trips to refill a glass with clean cool water that would take about five seconds every now and then.

It's not a major irritation but it's one of those things that pisses me off along with people meandering about staring at their phones or pushing into the lift in front of me as if I wasn't there and immediately pressing the button so the doors close on me before I'm in.

What really gets me is in the morning when I have to cross a very busy road to work. I press the button to wait and stand on the right so I can see if there is a break in the traffic so I can get to the middle.

No matter who far on the right I stand, without fail, some enormous dolt with a coffee in one hand and a phone in the other will squeeze up on my right blocking my view of the traffic. Then they won't actually cross but will mindlessly stare at their screen and then walk across me diagonally when the beeper goes.

It's not a major thing. It's not even that I really care about getting into work on time but I'd be a liar if I didn't say I have often thought of pushing them into the path of oncoming traffic.

No doubt someone else would complain about them making lots of little random trips though. And not everyone prefers cold water. Several people I work with prefer room temperature water.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 13/10/2018 21:58

Limted
Can you hand on heart be 100% sure that none of these "competitive water drinkers" are not on medication which, as I am, makes their mouths feel like the bottom of a budgie's cage at its best?
These people are fucking mad

Nice. One of the main side effects of antidepressant/anti-anxiety medications is a raging dry mouth. And as I said before, it's so, so much more than feeling a bit thirsty. To look at me, there would be no indication that I'm on any medication whatsoever and I strangely enough don't share that information with my colleagues.
So until you are privy to the medical history of each and every one of those "stupid fucking women" ffs, maybe reserve your judgement. Maybe get a gigantic refillable water bottle so that your incredibly important day isn't inconvenienced by all the fucking mad stupid fucking women.

JellyBears · 13/10/2018 22:01

I use reusable cups/water bottles

wtffgs2 · 13/10/2018 22:26

I drink water all day as I work in a heavily air conditioned environment and feel lousy if I don't keep drinking. The windows don't open so that's not an option.

I'm not a fan of coffee on the go as it doesn't taste nice though that little hole in the lid. However, if the coffee is an emergency wake-me-up then I will drink in the go.

I was a teacher for several years and can confirm you have to drink lots to help your voice (but you have no time to pee) It is also a very physical job.

I do agree about the single use bottles and coffee cups. I use my own water bottle.

It sounds like you are spoiling for a fight though.

Petitepamplemousse · 13/10/2018 22:26

Coffee a status symbol 😂 I’ve heard it all now. People just have different priorities. I’m aware treating myself to a take out coffee most weekends adds up in cost through the year, but for me the treat is a highlight of a shopping trip and is worth it. It makes me feel good because it TASTES nice when someone else has made it for a change. Not a status symbol 😂
People who get their knickers in a twist over other people’s drinking habits really need to get a life.

ferrier · 13/10/2018 22:27

I'm with you op.
I don't understand people buying bottled water.
I don't understand everywhere having those water dispenser things rather than just a standard sink with a tap or may be a water fountain.
I don't understand the need to have a bottle of water on your person at all times and to be constantly sipping from it.
Thirty years ago this never happened. If you got thirsty you went to the tap and got a glass of water or went to the shop and bought a drink ... which was rare and wouldn't be water ... or waited till you were back home.
I don't care what other people do. I do find it odd though.

limitedperiodonly · 13/10/2018 22:27

And not everyone prefers cold water. Several people I work with prefer room temperature water.

There are two buttons on the water dispenser formerly. A cold one and a room temperature one. It's paradise where I work. Apart from the people who get in my way.

Punkrocker I've already explained why I don't want a 'gigantic refillable water bottle'. It takes too long to fill and gets warm and creates a big queue that inconveniences others.

My day isn't any more important than most people's but I get fed up with standing behind people filling bottles of water when everyone has limitless access to clean water within 30 seconds of their desk.

I don't care about your medical history and am relieved to hear that you don't share it with your colleagues. That's another of my pet hates.

JacquesHammer · 13/10/2018 22:29

My day isn't any more important than most people's but I get fed up with standing behind people filling bottles of water when everyone has limitless access to clean water within 30 seconds of their desk

“I’m only filling a small glass, would you mind if I just cut in?”

If only there was a way not to have to wait...

AlexanderHamilton · 13/10/2018 22:29

It used to be cans/bottles of pop. At least water is healthier.

MaisyPops · 13/10/2018 22:38

I think the bottled water companies have done a very good marketing job on a huge proportion of our population
I agree.
Same in schools though. Rightly, there was a push to have students drinking water rather than pop and hydration is important (when i was a student people didnt go in class but ewually wouldnt want to go at break and so wouldnt drink enough). But we've got the tail end of students who think having access to 1 litre of water every lesson is somehow a human right and they'll die if they can't have multiple trips to the fountain and then the toilets in every lesson. It's really disruptive to learning. Thankfully, that fad seems to have died down and a more common sense approach to managing fluid and bathroom breaks seems to be the norm.

I do agree with PP that for some people the power walking with a take out coffee seems to be a bit "I'm so busy and have other priorities so couldn't possibly sit for 10 minutes". Sometimes it's convenience but the power walky, cut across people whilst clutching phone and coffee types are amusingly annoying.

NorksAreMessy · 13/10/2018 22:41

But HOW much time do all these 2ltr guzzlers spend going back and forth to the loo?
How do the manage on the tube for an hour?

That is a LOT of water during the day.

If I go out and have a few pints (old money) in the evening, I am up and down to the loo for AGES after.

Plus all that hand washing.

I worry

duskymauve · 13/10/2018 22:42

limitedperiodonly if they’re using 2l water bottles, they’re refilling it once, max twice a day. No one is drinking 10 full litres, let’s face it. You’re being a tad over dramatic.

30 years ago, people may well have not been sipping water constantly, but they also weren’t bitching about other people’s drinking habits online so... 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think we’ve all developed irrating habits over the past three decades
