I'm from a city in the west Midlands and hate when it's pronounced bur-min-um.. nope it's bir-ming-hum.

Jai for jay is mainly an Ayrshire thing, and anyone who says it is Wrongy McWrongface from Wrongton. You don’t call a DJ a dee-jai, do you? The US president wasn’t Jai-Eff-Kay, was he? Grrr.

I recently found (thanks to a similar MN thread) that I can't say sixth properly. I say sickth if I try and say sixth it comes out like "Sick-s-thh" and I sound like a twat

The ck-s-th sound is notoriously difficult. Which is why lots and lots of people say sickth. It's definitely not just you, Gun.

I was due a name change so thanks for the inspiration! I still say jai automatically if I'm reciting the whole alphabet like a primary school kid, but use jay otherwise. I am reclaiming jai from now on!

I would like to add "Nougat" which should surely be pronounced noo-gah not nugget. I find it physically impossible not to correct it when I hear people say that one!
