to stop shopping at M and S for selling hijabs for young girls

So M and S have started to sell hijabs as part of their school uniform range...aimed at primary school children. One reviewer helpfully suggests getting the small one for a 4 year old.

I have been shopping at Marks all my adult life and have remained a faithful customer despite some dodgy clothes of late and the uninspirational Sparks card, but I think this is going to be the last straw for me.

Why would it bother you what they are selling , sounds like you have issues with Muslims not the Hijabs being sold.

BrokenFlipflop · 11/10/2018 20:58

But why?

PristineCondition · 11/10/2018 20:59

I'm sure they will get over the loss

MysweetAudrina · 11/10/2018 20:59

What's wrong with that? There must be a demand for them. Hijabs are pretty and if little girls want to wear them then I can't see the problem. Am I missing somethimg?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 11/10/2018 20:59

Should muslims not shop on M&S then?

MynameisJune · 11/10/2018 20:59

You realise the Hijab is a headscarf not a full burka or Niqab. What’s wrong with selling them when they sell uniform for white/non religious children.

irishfeminist · 11/10/2018 21:00

It's sexualising little girls. How anyone can call themselves feminist while pretending it isn't is beyond me.

What Cloudly said

justwantcheesee · 11/10/2018 21:00

Why? Why does their selling of hijabs make you wish to refuse your custom.

Hope the explanation is as educated and detailed as the statement you made as that sounds ridiculous Hmm

letsgetreadytosamba · 11/10/2018 21:00

Supply and demand. I can’t get upset about it.

trumptrump · 11/10/2018 21:01

Should they stop selling hats too?

3littlebadgers · 11/10/2018 21:01

The bastards will be selling first holy communion dresses next! Shock

LEMtheoriginal · 11/10/2018 21:01

Sexualising little girls? Oh ffs Hmm

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/10/2018 21:02

Regardless of personal thoughts in the need if this makes it possible for these children to participate in schools and pe then that's better than the alternative isn't it?

Check out the uniform.list for local schools primary and secondary and you will see the alternative uniform for Muslim.students listed . M&s will he slightly cheaper than the school supplier ones

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 11/10/2018 21:02

Is this actually true?

Should they stop selling hats too?

^ comments like that are deliberately disingenuous. Covering a 4 year old's hair because not doing so is somehow 'immodest' is disgustingly sexist and something we should fight against as a society. Why should a little girl need to stop men gazing at her hair?

ThanksHunkyJesus · 11/10/2018 21:04

If they are sexualising little girls then shall we also boycott shops that sell skimpy two piece bikinis for young children?

WorraLiberty · 11/10/2018 21:04

Regardless of personal thoughts in the need if this makes it possible for these children to participate in schools and pe then that's better than the alternative isn't it?

Yes, I agree.

And also remember a lot of little girls aren't forced to wear them. They choose to because like a lot of little girls, they just want to look like Mummy/Aunt/Granny etc.

DunderMifflin · 11/10/2018 21:04

I've just thought, I bet they've sold crosses in their jewellery range before - as an atheist I will buy my pants elsewhere from now on

Hayles88 · 11/10/2018 21:05

That's nice dear. I'm sure they'll be devastated.

Louislovesmud · 11/10/2018 21:06

If this genuinely would stop you shopping there it's probable that you're not the type of customer they want.

Queenofselfdoubt · 11/10/2018 21:06

Is this for real?

What exactly is the problem?

I’d guess at least a hundred million Muslim women wear it and yes their small daughters too. Whilst I personally don’t agree with it for myself, I don’t think it’s anyones business what you put on your head whether it’s a doughnut or a hijab.

Get a life. And stop being so prejudiced.
