To want to hygge my Christmas?

I missed the whole hygge craze. Always late to the party, that's me.
I would love to hygge my festive season though. I suffer S.A.D. at this time of year. I know winter is a great time to try all this hygge stuff.

I want candles, but have a respiratory disorder. Are beeswax ones okay? What about if they are scented with natural oils? I know that's expensive, but it would only be for December month.

Thanks all.

What about LED candles? You get some really realistic ones now that flicker like real candles and look like wax pillar candles (have a look on amazon)

Thanks, Aunt I have looked - I would love recommendations if anyone could help me. Prepared to spend a bit more and treat myself as they will last much longer than beeswax. Thank you.

The day after the clocks go back, I feel terrible. Every bloody year. Must get something nice to look forward to while I adjust to the reality of another winter.

I need to do this too. We moved from a. Super cosy house to not a very cosy house last year and I’m missing it. I also suffer from SAD a great deal.

I’m crocheting some throws and blankets at the moment. Candles are a great idea!

By the time the clocks go back, it's only about 8 weeks before the days start getting longer again. Focus on that, rather than the thought that it's now dark at 4pm.

How about soya candles as they have a purer burn ?
Lots of cosy faux fur throws or the big knitted ones.
Dim lights, so perhaps a low wattage small table lamp or fairy lights.
Ideally an open log fire ( If only !)
You have to think snuggly. Enjoy and relax in your new space.

I got some lovely LED pillar candles in lidl or aldis over the years, the latest lot have six hour timers on so you do not even have to bother to remember to turn them on or off
Amazon is great for bulk buying the tealight types

Also great cos you know the cats cannot catch themselves alight!! Or that lovely display of pine cones in the glass tank vase are not just waiting until your back is turned to become kindling for a house fire!

I use lots of battery operated candles and just one real one to add the lovely smell. Plus blankets on the sofas for extra cosiness.

If you are worried about perfumes or paraffin you could pour your own pure soy candles? I find it quite a relaxing activity evening activity in itself and its very easy. I wouldn't add essential oils personally as I don't know the flash points for them enough to trust they would be OK.

You could add some to a cold air humidifier though which would produce a nice scent?

treezylover · 10/10/2018 19:27

Sarah Moseley does lovely reasonably priced soy candles and loads of jo malone and high end perfume shoes which are pretty accurate.

Definitely get a SAD lamp, as well as embracing the season. Do both. Yes to LED candles, get some nice blankets from TK Maxx, winter bedding, get into slow cooking, get a flask so you have warm drinks to take about. I don’t have an electric blanket because I have a massive goose down duvet, but if I’m struggling to warm through, then a hot water bottle is a must. Cashmere jumpers from eBay, proper wool bed socks. Ahhhh it’s warm today but I’m now looking forward to getting into the coldness and embracing the coziness 🤩
