I have needed to lose 5 stone for several years. I have tried (unsuccessfully) many times to lose weight and get fitter.

After a year of severe depression that I am coming out the other side of, I would really like to try again, with a fresh attitude.

Would be interested to hear any health and fitness journeys.

Good on you! I find Pinterest is really good for this.

Mincingfuckdragon · 10/10/2018 16:52

I also had quite bad depression for several years and gained a lot of weight. I've lost 4.5 stone over the last 15 months. I am a size 14 now (was a 20), wanting to get to a size 8-10 so I've still got about 3.5 stone to go. I exercise hard for 30.minutes 4 to 5 times a week (HIIT or weights), walk for an hour 2 - 3 times a week, do yoga twice a week and follow a Ketogenic diet (less than 20 G of net carbs a day) which helps with hunger pains. For me motivation/inspiration isn't enough - what is required is discipline and persistence, as boring as that sounds. It's a bit of a grind, but the results have been worth it. Start with one new change every day, and within 8 weeks you'll be well on your way.

I’m (hopefully) coming out the other side of a breakdown and bad depression and I have 3-4 stone to lose.
It seems overwhelming though!

magbob · 10/10/2018 17:02

I have lost 3 stones by walking 10,000 steps each day and eating some lovely food from The Hairy Bikers diet books. I honestly think it is because I have been consistent. Also, because the food I eat is so tasty I have no yearning to 'cheat' with 'treats'. Best of luck. I feel positive, healthier and I no longer feel invisible.

YouTube and Biggest Loser are my guilty pleasure for transformations Grin

I've lost five stone and have one more to go. It's taken just over a year so far. I have not given up pasta or chocolate, but I do seem to have found a way to just keep going day in day out, and not get too bothered if I slip - just get up the next day and start fresh. There's a fab "100lbs to lose" support thread on here, check that out? Several of the posters have achieved it, the rest of us are at various stages of the journey.

Life is really different now - lots more energy, blood pressure back in safe range, sleep better...and I run, regularly, for pleasure Shock My family never thought they would see the day! It's not always straightforward (single parent, working, DC with additional needs) but it's totally worth it. Good luck!

stevie69 · 10/10/2018 17:18

I also lost six stones on an 'eat a bit less, move a bit more' type of diet. I did go to Weight Watchers for the group support but I basically just lowered my calories to a level that allowed me to lose a pound or two per week.

My before and afters are attached (for those who haven't already seen them.

I'm very ordinary. I did it. You will too. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Loads of luck Smile

My gym does a 6 week challenge to lose 20lbs. I lost 2 stone in the 6 weeks and felt like superwoman! It was intensive, but it really kick started me and made me take control of my fitness and health.

ilovecherries · 10/10/2018 17:23

I’ve lost heading on for 6 stone with the mumsnet low carb bootcamp (next one starts on a Monday if you are interested). I’m postmenopausal, have no thyroid and have a serious orthopaedic injury, so don’t have much going for me Grin. It’s taken 18 months, and I feel better than I have for decades. You can do this!

ilovecherries · 10/10/2018 17:27

Size 24 to a size 12. The before with the white trousers is actually a stone short of my heaviest. BlushSad. The one in the blue dress I was on my way down, had lost about 1.5 stone when it was taken.

I've gone from getting out of breath on the stairs to running three times a week, doing 10Ks and being actually fit.

Remember that not all victories are scale victories.

ilovecherries · 10/10/2018 17:29

Not on a Monday but this Monday!

RunningWhipstitch · 10/10/2018 17:58

Thank you all for some great advice! Well done everybody for what you have achieved.

I need to do this too, OP. Fancy an accountability buddy?

LolaTola · 10/10/2018 20:54

Place marking. MagicKeystoAsda. What have you done food wise? I like the idea of not following a specific plan as I just find that so restrictive.

AnonaMouse1 · 10/10/2018 20:56

Look up Debbie's world you tuber and instagrammer and also mumsnetter

She's lost a staggering 15 stone!!!!

FlirtyRomanticToast · 10/10/2018 20:58

I have been following an exercise and eating plan devised by my personal trainer husband for five months now. I haven't actually lost any weight though! I'm very glad he convinced me to take progress pics...

Have you got a Fitbit? I can’t honestly say I make the most of mine personally, but they are useful.

You can set yourself walking targets, and track calories and stuff like that.

dontticklethetoad · 10/10/2018 21:03

I need to lose at least 4.
We eat really healthy meals, lots of protein and veg (we have an allotment), very few processed carbs in the actual meals.... Then 8pm comes around and my will power goes AWOL. It's like my brain completely switches off and I come out the other side with an empty crisp or biscuit packet packets in my sweaty paws.

I could just not buy stuff, but the kids are entitled to have a few nice things now and then. Plus we live very close to a shop and my husband is very persaudable, so would end up buying stuff.

dontticklethetoad · 10/10/2018 21:06

Another issue is that whenever I cut carbs, I get sugar crashes late afternoon (not every day). I can never preempt them, they happen all of a sudden and then I'm stuffing something in face to try and stop the horrible shakey/dizzy feeling.

I'm miserable, but I just can't stop eating shitty food.

PearlandRubies194 · 10/10/2018 21:20

@stevie69 you’ve done AMAZING! Well done, you look fab xx

Disabrie22 · 10/10/2018 21:21

If the food is the problem - try upping your exercise first? I upped my exercise by a 100% and it motivated me massively.

PearlandRubies194 · 10/10/2018 21:23

@ilovecherries and @FlirtyRomanticToast well done to you both too, you look incredible!

I am in bed and few so low, my daughter took a photo of me this evening as I was ironing and I look really awful. Disgusting and I can’t believe I’ve let myself get to this stage

PearlandRubies194 · 10/10/2018 21:26

@dontticklethetoad I could have written your post word for word. I love healthy food, but I have terrible habits. I could eat salad and veg or fruit all day then get home and eat an enormous portion of stodge then pick on the kids’ treats all night :(

PippaRabbit · 10/10/2018 21:27

@FlirtyRomanticToast you look amazing. I started with my PT in July following his eating plan and working out 5 times a week. I haven't lost weight either but have lost 2 dress sizes and gained loads of confidence ☺️

fishfingersandketchup · 10/10/2018 21:29

I feel total sympathy and empathy with you both @dontticklethetoad and @PearlandRubies194 . My problem time is 4pm when I get home from work. I'm always feeling tired and a bit stressed and that's when I want to eat. I'm 2 1/2 stone overweight and feel horrible about myself. If it were easy, we'd all be slim!
Good luck OP I hope you find something that works for you.
