To wonder if there is a medium - full coverage foundation out there that doesn't look too heavy when applied?

I used to have wonderful skin, life/aging/fucking rosacea means this is no longer the case. I prefer medium to full coverage foundations for the times when I care to look good but every time I find a foundation that I think looks great and not unnatural when I apply it, two hours later if I catch myself in the mirror it looks heavy and obvious. Is there a foundation that doesn't do this but still covers well? I'm curious about the Charlotte Tilbury but that's a pricey gamble to take (my bathroom is the graveyard of foundations used only once...)

I found Kat Von D to be good- although I'm not a fan of a lot of her ethics so not sure I'll support her now 🙈

Rainbunny · 09/10/2018 04:16

Ooh! What's the deal with Kat V D's ethics?

No7 airbrush foundation has been a saviour for me - doesn’t break me out, medium+ coverage (I’m ruddy of cheek and it makes me look all one colour prior to blusher/bronzer etc) and you don’t need much - it spreads over the face beautifully and disappears, making it look like your skin is pretty much flawless. As I have dry skin it can settle in fine lines, but I find as long as I moisturise properly beforehand it’s fine. Not too pricey either. No7 perfect foundation breaks me out ask it’s quite thick (i find) and No7 tinted moisturiser used to be my go to, until I needed more coverage. I like Mac foundation but they test on animals, and the price point is too high for me, so No7 keeps me happy on both fronts. I use Stay Matte powder from Rimmel to set it, and a Bobbi Brown blusher to finish off. Grin (no I don’t work for Boots or No7 - I just like their foundation and mascaras. Especially as they have foundation for pale skinned ghosts like me!!)

No!!!! I’ve asked Santa for one of KVD’s palettes - what’s the story? She surely can’t be worse than Jeffrey Star Confused

Sequencedress · 09/10/2018 04:24

Jeffree*
such a shame he’s so problematic - his lipsticks are great

penisbeakers · 09/10/2018 04:36

Make up forever is great.

Rainbunny · 09/10/2018 04:49

I used to use Make up Forever back in the day but I stopped and I can't remember why exactly, although they've come out with some newer foundations that are supposed to be amazing.

Estée Lauder double wear is honestly the best foundation I have ever used.

tryingtobemybestme · 09/10/2018 05:20

I really like the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, I find it looks pretty natural but is buildable if needed. My sister really rates one of the Nars Foundations too.

violetbunny · 09/10/2018 05:22

Armani Maestro is medium coverage and ultra light weight to apply (very different texture to most foundations).

I also recommend getting a Beauty blender
sponge and using it damp to apply foundation. You have a lot more control this way and a very natural finish vs using a brush

MissCharleyP · 09/10/2018 05:44

Estée Lauder Double Wear or MAC Studio Sculpt. I’ve got Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder which is nice on days I don’t want as much coverage or when I’m on holiday but I don’t really rate it’s staying power over the other two. I haven’t tried her other one but I’d be reluctant based on this one.

cookingteaforsix · 09/10/2018 05:45

I find Clinique offer a good range that suit changing skin. It's the one thing I always prioritise as it really makes a difference. You can't skimp on foundation.

booandbumpp · 09/10/2018 05:48

Another for Estée Lauder double wear it's amazing.

With regard to KVD - I don't know if it's what PP was referring to but I know that she's anti vaccination for her baby.

Fatted · 09/10/2018 05:52

Another fan of Estee Lauder double wear here although my budget doesn't allow for it these days.

When I'm skint, good old max factor pan stick is a good option.

I definitely recommend as other PP have using a damp sponge to help avoid the caked on look. Also make sure that you have the right shade. I'm very pale so always need the lightest foundation available. Anything darker just looks far too fake!

doubleshotespresso · 09/10/2018 05:55

I could have written your post a few months ago....
Have experimented heavily across many brands, here's my best finds!

-Bobbi Brown (the one that comes in a pump bottle. Blends well gives medium ish coverage and stays out all day

-Illamasqua skin base: takes a while to get the hang of building it up but beautiful breathable finish and great range of shades

-Maybelline do one with pink lettering on the bottle. Amazing stuff

-MaxFactor 3-in-1 Primer/Serum/Base really think this is brilliant and about £8 if you watch out in boots etc

-Lancôme Teint idole lovely finish and a finish between medium and full coverage

I also recommend mixing a bit of facial oil in with your foundation really helps my skin feel a bit more boosted and allows the product to glide on a bit better

Poodles1980 · 09/10/2018 06:09

I’d recomend borjois healthy mix as a budget one. Really good coverage, I use it as well as my more eapensive double wear

sofato5miles · 09/10/2018 06:15

Charlotte Tillbury does an excellent foundation. That is light cover. I am very similar to you and have just started using one at 48. I had a few false starts but put on Benefits pore reducer first, then apply this. I have had so many compliments that I feel like I have struck youthful gold.

MrsMWA · 09/10/2018 06:30

You need to use primer, preferably the same brand as the foundation, underneath and a good translucent setting powder. Hourglass is great for more coverage. Also be prepared to spend a bit more if you can. My faves are Laura Mercier and Guerlain.

TheSmallishMan · 09/10/2018 06:42

I love the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder and Magic Away concealer. It has a dewy finish and can be layered for extra coverage.

I went to a counter to try before buying and the woman was very helpful.

fishfingersandketchup · 09/10/2018 06:46

Estee lauder maximum cover camouflage makeup. Sounds heavy but its fine as long as you blend well. Have you tried Soolantra for the rosacea? It sorted my skin after 20years of struggling. It kills off demodex mites which are found in higher quantities on the skin of people with rosacea.

Miladymilord · 09/10/2018 06:46

I really like no 7 perfect foundation. I've tried a lot and thats the one I buy again and agsin

AuntBeastie · 09/10/2018 06:47

I also like Estée Lauder double wear, with their primer too and some laura mercier setting powder

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 09/10/2018 06:52

Clinique do a foundation that has a redness correction in it that is my favourite. You can go and get colour matched and get a pot to take home and sample.
I also like the no7 one named by a op and I also use a Rimmel one that gives good coverage and is cheap as chips. Double wear is the best coverage but I do feel it looks very mask like but what I do is put it on the area that needs most coverage and use something lighter over the rest of my face.

I’ve just bought this one (and concealer) and am very happy.
I got fed up buying foundations and not being entirely happy with the results. At least buying with QVC you can return and refund (-pp).

The other brand to have a look at is IT Cosmetics.

WyrdSisterWeatherwax · 09/10/2018 07:00

I use Max Factor Lasting Performance with the Maybelline superstay primer under it and it works great covering patches of psoriasis on my face without looking too heavy.
