To expect laser tattoo removal to get rid of a tattoo completely?

I've started having a tattoo which goes round my upper leg removed. It looks awful and I'd been wanting to get rid of it for a long time, so I've been saving up for the treatment after researching it a lot!
It's all black, with no colour at all and I'm having the treatment with PicoSure laser at Skin clinic. I've had 3 treatments so far and it has faded a bit.
I'm worried now because a few people have started telling me I shouldn't be trying to get rid of it and that you can't ever get rid of a tattoo completely and there'll always be a mark where it was.
The people at Skin tell me they should be able to completely remove it, but I don't know that's sales talk and whether to be sure now.
I've looked at google images for before and after pictures and some of them look really botched, but others look like the tattoo has been magicked away!
I just hoped some of you lovely people could tell me if you've had tattoo removal (or perhaps someone you know has) and whether you think it did work completely or perhaps my expectations are too high?
Thank you!

If it's all black I'm almost certain it will all go. I had several lasered and the black is pretty much invisible. Colours like green and red are much more difficult but my black ones went fine.

It depends on several things including your skin type and how thick the image is too.

As an aside I’m always fascinated when people drop large amounts of money without doing proper research

Hope it works out for you though

If they've said it will completely go then it should do. Did you get it in writing?

Heidimay · 09/10/2018 11:50

Thank you everyone who has replied.
@trojanpony I think you may have misunderstood - I researched this over a couple of years, Ive just become worried now some friends have started to tell me horror stories about bad tattoo removal.
If anyone can tell me whether they've had a tattoo completely removed and were happy with the job I'd be very grateful!

I really think you need to stop listening to random people and their stories, and talk to the person doing the laser removal. they know how deep the tattoo is, and will have a much better idea of how many treatments it will take and what you can expect.

Picosure with black ink should give good results. The realself website is great for reviews of different beauty treatments and before/ after pictures.

My DH has had several small black tattoos removed from torso and forearms at the Leeds Sk:n clinic, although am not sure which laser type. If you didn't know they were there then you'd never tell. If you know where to look then you can sometimes see the slight shiny shadows of the scars but I would certainly call the process successful!
