Convicted pedophile working in supermarket aibu?

I worked in a supermarket (big chain, green logo) a few years ago and one of my colleagues at the time was arrested and charged with various sexual offences against children (under 10) and animals. He admitted what he done (the worst of the worst) and was placed on the sex offenders register, given a community payback order and a fine. Imagine my shock today to go into the store for the first time in over 2 years to find him stacking shelves, still employed by the supermarket.

I left my trolley, got the name of the store manager and left the shop feeling sick to my stomach.

AIBU to complain about this and ask the store managers if they are aware of his history (he's probably still doing it) or should I just leave it? I can't believe he still has a job let alone in a very busy supermarket

You know the overwhelming reasonable nature of most responses on here is really heartening.

Also if you think about how common both paedophilia and in particular rape are, there's a pretty realistic chance of your local supermarket employing either a paedophile or someone who's committed a sexual offence (which is a much bigger group than people who've been convicted of sexual offences) at any one time. They just probably haven't got a conviction. Making them ever so much safer, of course!

""parents have a right to know where men like him are in public life.""

Could you imagine if they did, there would be vigilantes everywhere.
I remember one being moved onto the estate where we had some family living.
He was in A&E in a matter of hours, it was leaked where he was.

Why are you assuming it's Asda? Waitrose has a green logo too.

And Morrisons.

I think the most telling thing about this thread is that the OP has not been back, even once.

Scrumptiousbears · 08/10/2018 21:09

Bianca But it is down to the parents because no one else is going to safeguard your kids. You don't know the convicted ones let alone the ones that haven't been caught yet. They are like rats. They are everywhere.

Graphista I'll safeguard mine you, let yours run free for fear of cotton wool.

Oh look OP has gone Hmm

Why are people surprised by his sentence? You can do the worst of the worst here and get away with practically no jail time. Acting like we don't give slaps on the wrists here for murderers and rapists.

cheshireagain · 09/10/2018 06:52

I can vouch for no prison time and sex offences.

A member of my family abused his daughters when they were little, no arrest.

MetalMidget · 09/10/2018 07:19

This doesn't add up. You get a custodial sentence for possessing the worst images, even 'a few years ago'.

Not always the case - I found out a former colleague had been found to have over a thousand images and hundreds of movies of child and animal sexual abuse on his computers, with several being in the worst category.

He was given a suspended sentence of less than a year, but did have to be supervised, put on the sex offenders register, given a sexual offences prevention order and sent for treatment.

zippey · 09/10/2018 08:08

Every supermarket in the UK has sex offenders in it, be they staff or customers. Your best bet is online shopping.

Lweji · 09/10/2018 08:39

And risk it with a delivery man?!

consuelapipkin · 09/10/2018 09:55

Could you imagine if they did, there would be vigilantes everywhere

Vigilante stuff can get way out of hand. Look what happened to this paediatrician because of the righteous anger of some vigilantes:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/901723.stm

A hospital paediatrician has hit out at vandals who forced her to flee her home after apparently taking her job title to mean she was a paedophile

South African-born Yvette Cloete - a 30-year-old trainee consultant at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, south Wales - said she planned to move home after returning to find the outside of her property daubed with the words "paedo"

differentnameforthis · 09/10/2018 11:25

Stacking shelves in a supermarket (which either usually have bathrooms or are in a center which has bathrooms) where kids often run ahead of their parents, or go off to pick something up for them, or even go to the bathroom by themselves...not sure I's be happy with that!

Takes seconds for a little kid to be carried/enticed off/followed into a bathroom ...

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 09/07/2021 17:23

Seriously seriously wondering if this is the green logo supermarket I have just posted about in my thread

Coffee2sugars · 09/07/2021 17:27

Zombie thread

1FootInTheRave · 09/07/2021 17:28

I wouldn't be happy.

And plenty of behind the scene roles in a supermarket without the need of exposure to the public.
