To think a full English breakfast is too much on Christmas morning?

I like my food, honestly I do, but I don't know how people eat a full English on Christmas morning.

You are having a big roast dinner for lunch which is unusual in itself.

How on earth are you supposed to put that away too?

Am I missing something here?

Full English first thing, Christmas Dinner around 6.00 pm.

MrTrebus · 08/10/2018 14:23

I agree we always have croissants that's about it

SoyDora · 08/10/2018 14:23

We have a full English at 9ish then dinner at 5pm ish (not turkey, usually something like venison wellington). Works fine for us!

Areyoufree · 08/10/2018 14:24

YABU! I love the big, Christmas breakfast! We tend to have a massive breakfast, but then the main meal won't be until mid-afternoon. Ah, Christmas gluttony!

Leeds2 · 08/10/2018 14:24

I think a lot of people have a full English relatively early (because they have got up early), and then don't have lunch until later in the day, say 4pm. In which case it is doable.

Returnofthesmileybar · 08/10/2018 14:24

The one day a year it is totally fine to eat a selection box for breakfast, why would you eat a fry instead?

user232398291 · 08/10/2018 14:25

That explains it. I have lunch about 2pm.

I do like to eat though, don't get me wrong Smile

Most people is a lot more Christmas Day, it’s a day of indulgence.

We do full English for breakfast with champagne then turkey at 3-4pm. We all enjoy it

If you don’t want it then don’t eat it?? I assume nobody is going to tie you to a chair and force feed you?

user232398291 · 08/10/2018 14:25

I'm also not up that early with children/visitors or anything like that.

I agree! We have croissants —and selection boxes— if I have a full, cooked breakfast I wouldn’t be hungry enough to eat again until evening and we have Christmas dinner at 2 ish.

NoProbLlama78 · 08/10/2018 14:26

Yanbu. Have selection box and bucks fizz

YABU.

We always have big breakfast on Christmas because the DC get up ridiculously early and while they open stockings etc gives plenty time to make it before starvation sets in.

Then the rest of the day can be really leisurely and late lunch about 2ish. We usually don't bother with an evening meal, just nibbles and cake.

SoyDora · 08/10/2018 14:27

Because I prefer a full English breakfast to chocolate Grin.
We don’t have that much chocolate around at Christmas. DH and I don’t tend to eat it and the DC are still only 4 and 3 so we don’t buy much chocolate for them. We do have cheese though. Lots of cheese.

user232398291 · 08/10/2018 14:28

I eat plenty later on, believe me, I just want to do my lunch justice iyswim. I don't go to much effort cooking normally, so I like to be really hungry for my Christmas lunch.

Breakfast varries here depending on whether dsc have stayed over or are coming mid afternoon. If they are here and going back by 10 then we have a bug breakfast about 8 and then they have lunch about 2.

If they aren't here then we just have toast and lunch is about 12.

We are due to have them christmas eve-boxing day if their dm sticks to the agreement in which case it will be a full English around 8 and Christmas Dinner about 4

Sauage
Bacon
Egg poached or fried
Toast
Beans
Hash browns
Mmmmm can't wait!

SpoonBlender · 08/10/2018 14:29

We have a lightish English for breakfast, cheese and meats and things at lunch trying to leave space for the main event around 5pm. Last three years we've not made it to pudding!

SoyDora · 08/10/2018 14:29

We don’t cook Christmas dinner until we’re hungry enough to eat it, so not tied to a particular time. As we don’t have turkey we’re not as tied to timings as some people are. Don’t see the point in saying ‘Christmas lunch is at 2’ if we’re not ready to eat it at 2.

whydoistayupsolate · 08/10/2018 14:29

Yanbu.

You are supposed to starve until lunch is ready (except for champagne) so you can then fit in as much as possible. Everyone knows this. Wink

Furrydogmum · 08/10/2018 14:30

Bacon, brie and cranberry croissants - yum! The best start to Christmas day 😊

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 08/10/2018 14:30

M&S chocolate biscuits and Buck’s Fizz for breakfast here. We eat our Christmas dinner early though, around 2pm.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 08/10/2018 14:31

YANBU i dont get it either, morning is christmas chocolate, lunch is at 2pm....grazing throughout the evening

Sparklesocks · 08/10/2018 14:34

We tend to do bacon rolls or a toasted bacon bagel, lots of red or brown sauce and a big mug of tea...perfect!

Squirrelblanket · 08/10/2018 14:35

We love a full English breakfast but also like to eat Christmas dinner earlier, say 2-ish. As we can't do both meals justice we now have a tradition of full English on Christmas Eve instead! Then it's just croissants and bucks fizz on the big day.

AuntBeastie · 08/10/2018 14:35

We eat in the evening.
