To think a full English breakfast is too much on Christmas morning?

I like my food, honestly I do, but I don't know how people eat a full English on Christmas morning.

You are having a big roast dinner for lunch which is unusual in itself.

How on earth are you supposed to put that away too?

Am I missing something here?

Early breakfast of fresh orange juice, smoked salmon and scrambled egg then Christmas dinner between 2.30 and 4 depending what the weather is like. Later if good as we will go walking.

ShatnersWig · 08/10/2018 15:25

Christmas lunch was always 2 pm in our house growing up so no breakfast. Only time of the year we'd have two courses. Most Xmases if I am slightly peckish at night I'll have a bit of cheese or two mince pies.

Mind you, I don't do breakfast anyway. But even if I did, I can't imagine eating two huge meals on Xmas Day.

gollygoodnessgraciousme · 08/10/2018 15:27

Sausage/bacon sarnies and bucks fizz for breakfast here. Then nibbles and canapes from 12ish followed by massive Christmas dinner about 4pm and leftovers and about 8pm haha

lottiegarbanzo · 08/10/2018 15:27

I didn't know people ate either full English or chocolate for breakfast at Christmas. Pastries and/or cereal for us.

showmewhatyougot · 08/10/2018 15:30

Until 2 years ago we always used to get a McDonalds breakfast at around 8am (live near an airport so it NEVER closed) but they very selfishly decided their employees deserved to have Christmas Day off too!!!

Still haven't found new tradition breakfast :(

Then actual Xmas dinner at around 4-5 x

Barbayagar · 08/10/2018 15:31

I didn't even know a full English was traditional! Last year we had Nigella's Christmas Morning Muffins, which were lovely and light.

bellinibobble · 08/10/2018 15:33

@halloweendread you won't regret it :)

We have a quick breakfast. Then we usually have a huge Christmas lunch turkey with all the trimmings. For dinner, we tend to have something light like a box of mince pies or fruitcake with wine. Or a Yule Log.
I've even done a cheese platter or served jam tarts.

cholka · 08/10/2018 15:43

Ew, full English on Christmas Day? Never heard of that. I've always just grabbed something on the go, there's too much to do!

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 08/10/2018 15:52

Scrambled egg on wholemeal toast and smoked salmon plus a glass of Buck's Fizz usually between 10 and 11 am, if we've been to mass. Christmas dinner mid afternoon just after Queen's speech. Often over stuffed, after eating turkey and all the trimmings, so have the pudding during the evening.

ShatnersBassoon · 08/10/2018 15:53

I don't bugger around cooking up a pre-feast feast. We usually have a bit of panettone, toasted if you need something cooked.

ShatnersBassoon · 08/10/2018 15:54

That isn't to say I wouldn't eat a massive cooked breakfast, I just can't be bothered with the preparation and clear-up.

Groovee · 08/10/2018 15:54

Croissants with cocktail sausages, Nutella and chopped fruit is our usual breakfast on Christmas morning.

Have done slice sausage rolls in the past.

gamerwidow · 08/10/2018 15:59

I thought half a box of quality street while you cook lunch was the traditional Christmas Breakfast?

SoyDora · 08/10/2018 16:00

I don’t much like quality street and DH cooks dinner so I would go hungry in that case Grin

PoesyCherish · 08/10/2018 16:01

We love having full English breakfast on Christmas morning. Although we don't tend to have full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings- we tend to have pie and mash. Then when we see DSD on Boxing Day we'll do full Christmas dinner that day instead.

I think the one time I did have full English breakfast and full Christmas dinner in the same day, breakfast was at about 7 am and then lunch was at around 3 pm.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2018 16:02

Quality street is not quality chocolate,,,😱

ratherbeshowjumping · 08/10/2018 16:02

Not sure how people manage to eat a big breakfast & a roast! We always have smoked salmon, cream cheese & bagels with scrambled eggs, roast vine tomatoes & champagne. Christmas lunch is usually around 3/4pm Grin

dustarr73 · 08/10/2018 16:05

If i ate a fry i would be stuffed all day.And thats not goo, especially Christmas dinner is so nice.

Gersemi · 08/10/2018 16:06

There is no way on God's earth that I would agree to cook a full English breakfast and then a full Christmas dinner. And I don't really want anyone else to do it, either. We keep Christmas breakfast absolutely minimal so we have space for lunch.

81Byerley · 08/10/2018 16:07

We have scrambled egg with smoked salmon and champagne... or in my case orange juice with a splash of fizz! Dinner about 2pm.

LoniceraJaponica · 08/10/2018 16:11

"I think a lot of people have a full English relatively early (because they have got up early), and then don't have lunch until later in the day, say 4pm. In which case it is doable."

That would be doable for me as well. Although I prefer to eat my Christmas dinner at lunchtime, so we don't eat a huge breakfst. Besides I can't be doing with cooking twice on Christmas Day.

Dinner is around 1 - 2pm. We can't eat Christmas dinner late in the day due to OH's gastro surgery. He needs to go to bed on a relatively empty stomach.

LolaPickle · 08/10/2018 16:12

I know we all like to pig out on xmas day, but two large meals like that would not happen

If I cooked a big fry up,. I wouldn't eat again all day

Yesturday we had sausage sandwiches at 11am, that was me done all day
