To think a full English breakfast is too much on Christmas morning?

I like my food, honestly I do, but I don't know how people eat a full English on Christmas morning.

You are having a big roast dinner for lunch which is unusual in itself.

How on earth are you supposed to put that away too?

Am I missing something here?

We rarely have that kind of breakfast to be honest, and never at Christmas. We usually have smoked salmon with toasted muffins, Eggs Benedict or just croissants and coffee.

GaryWilmotsTeeth · 08/10/2018 14:59

my god, this was not the thread to read on a 5/2 diet fasting day Grin

pacer142 · 08/10/2018 15:00

I'd rather have the full english for breakfast instead of the traditional christmas dinner.

woollyheart · 08/10/2018 15:00

I used to be firmly against full English breakfast on Christmas Day. But it was pointed out how much DF looked forward to it.

Plus DP also liked it and volunteered to cook it.

So, I surrendered gracefully.

mostdays · 08/10/2018 15:00

I don't eat a huge breakfast at Xmas but not because I think it would be too much food along with Xmas dinner... Xmas for me revolves around over consumption and I refuse to feel remotely bad about that :)

DS has requested smoked salmon and fish roe caviar blinis for Christmas Day breakfast. Ideas above his station that lad Grin

MakeAHouseAHome · 08/10/2018 15:01

I couldn't eat a full english! Smoked salmon and cream cheese for us with bubbly :-)

bellsbuss · 08/10/2018 15:03

We have eggs benedict with salmon or scrambled eggs washed down with lots of Buck's Fizz Smile

When I moved in with my then BF, we started a tradition of pig in blanket sandwiches for Christmas Day breakfast. You can't beat it grin

OMG - sounds amazing! Will try that!

SimplyPut · 08/10/2018 15:03

Tea and chocolate for breakfast followed by fruit and pastries around 10am.

Full Christmas lunch around 3pm.

Hell, yeah, I am now ravenous too..

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/10/2018 15:04

If I have a full English then I don’t have lunch and often can still only manage a small evening meal.

Christmas breakfast is toast so that I have room for large roast which we have around 4pm.

PatchworkGirl · 08/10/2018 15:08

Christmas breakfast is a tangerine, followed by chocolate. And toast, if somebody is feeling sensible. No way would I want a big breakfast... imagine being too full to eat ALL the roast potatoes!

morningconstitutional2017 · 08/10/2018 15:13

I love a full English but I couldn't manage it on Christmas Day and I love my food. I have my usual cereal with fruit and yogurt which I really enjoy. I go to my sister's for lunch at mid-day and I eat as much as I can. Last year it was mentioned that I 'don't eat veg' - yes I do but not a bucketload as I could only manage half of what was on my plate. I went easy in the evening with a few nibbles but avoided the pastry (although sis is a dab hand at it) and for the first time in years I didn't feel that I was going to explode. I don't like feeling overfull.

Jux · 08/10/2018 15:13

We have smoked salmon then 1\2 avocado each with vinaigrette mid-morning after presents then lunch later. Used to have full English on Boxing Day at the local greasy spoon, but they don't seem to exist any more [very mournful]

IHeartKingThistle · 08/10/2018 15:14

See now that wouldn't work for us. Christmas Tea is the highlight and if we'd had a big breakfast and then had to wait for lunch then we'd never want tea - that's the best bit! Cold cuts and pickles and cheese, oh my!

So yeah,we have croissants and chocolate coins for breakfast, Christmas Dinner as soon as I can get it out and then splendiferous bits and bobs for Christmas Tea.

Boxing Day breakfast, however, DH does full English including bubble and squeak made with leftover sprouts, chestnuts and pancetta...

Melanippe · 08/10/2018 15:17

We don't eat Christmas Dinner until dinner time, so, around 8pm, but I usually cook something for brunch after church like Egg Benedict or pancakes. Then, while the meat is cooking, everyone goes out for a walk with the dogs and comes home to change and eat.

Cuddlykitten123 · 08/10/2018 15:19

Christmas day;
Breakfast of smoked salmon on toast with poached egg and bucks fizz
Lunch around 2 ish, roast with all the trimmings
6ish puddings and coffee
9ish roast dinner sandwich for those who can manage it.

Boxing day is a cooked breakfast with left over gammon, roast veg hash and fried eggs.

Kahlua4me · 08/10/2018 15:22

My fil cooks a full English for us all on Christmas morning after church. There are 15 of us in total and he does I.T all himself 😊😊

That way we all share a meal together before going on with our plans for the rest of the day. We then have our roast dinner about 5pm.

Works well.

Kahlua4me · 08/10/2018 15:23

It not IT!

tillytrotter1 · 08/10/2018 15:23

Definitely smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and croissants, washed down with bucks fizz, we then eat elsewhere about 2pm.

Angelil · 08/10/2018 15:23

Never heard of anyone having a full English on Xmas morning!

I'm all about the chocolate and Bucks Fizz route myself. Maybe something lighter (like smoked salmon or eggs Benedict on a bagel) if I want something savoury and feel in a reasonable mood.

Stephisaur · 08/10/2018 15:23

Oh god no. I couldn't do a full english and a full christmas lunch!

We have toast at around 6am (because I am a big child and cannot sleep at Christmas!) and then lunch is somewhere between 12-2pm.

Dinner is a sandwich made from leftover turkey around 9/10pm :)

GlmPmum · 08/10/2018 15:23

We usually just have a bacon butty each, fresh orange and decent cup of coffee. Go see family and a couple of drinks in the pub before sitting down for Christmas dinner around 330pm. Don't bother with tea and just nibble on left over meat or chocolates and mince pies Xmas cake etc
