Do you have a coffee machine?

And which would you recommend?

I want something that I could have an americano but also a latte if I wanted? Is there an 'all in one' coffee machine? Grin and are they really complicated?

Budget would be around €50 I'd say, seen a tassimo advertised for that in Shaw's yesterday.

Recommendations please?

My DD has left me her Dolce Gusto machine when she went off to University.

It suits me, cost £29.99.

I like it because of the huge availability of types of coffees, also a few supermarkets do compatible pods at half the price of Nescafe ones.( ASDA and LIDL)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 14:43

Does it have to be a latte, or would a milky coffee be acceptable?
We have a moka, costs about £10.

I have a Nespresso and I love it, but I think it might be out of your budget (was a gift so I'm not sure). I'd really recommend it.

Birdnerd · 07/10/2018 14:45

Cafetiere from tesco for £6 suits me just fine.

FlotSHAMnJetson · 07/10/2018 14:46

We used to use a Moka pot but then bought a Deloghi bean to cup machine. The Moka makes good coffee but a bit of a pain to clean when you drink multiple cups a day.

NannyR · 07/10/2018 14:48

I have a nespresso, but I very rarely use it these days. I prefer my aeropress and buying bags of coffee works out cheaper than pods. I also have the nespresso jug that heats and froths milk (I think other brands sell these too, I've seen them in aldi too).
My parents have a dolce gusto machine but they only use it for lungo coffees as the milk pods don't taste that good compared to fresh milk.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/10/2018 14:50

Aeropress or cafetiere. All those pods are a shocking waste.

DonnaDarko · 07/10/2018 14:50

Following, as I don't have one but I have always wanted one! I'm finally going to be able to splurge next month :)

SinkGirl · 07/10/2018 14:53

I have a bean to cup machine with integrated milk jug which would be perfect... except it’s about 10x your budget. Fully automated machines with milk units are extremely expensive, maybe just get a moka or aeropress and a milk frothed?

Lidlfix · 07/10/2018 14:57

Had a Tassimo it was shit and pods are pricey. If you can stretch to £65 Debenhams have Nespresso on offer - similar on Amazon. You can get compatible pods in Lidl or keep your eye on 3 for 2 deals. I might even buy a small one for camping- with electric hook up!

Satsumaeater · 07/10/2018 14:58

I have a standard filter machine. Robert Dyas and John Lewis sell them and there is a big range of prices so you can find one to suit your budget. You'd have to do your own milk frothing though.

We have a pod/capsule machine in work and I don't understand the attraction as they only give you half a cup. It's not remotely eco-friendly either.

Filter all the way for me.

SplishSplashSplosh · 07/10/2018 15:02

We have a tassimo and go through stages of using it loads and then not for a while, mainly because of the costs of buying pods (with 2 coffee drinking adults, we go through a box in 5 days and each have a coffee a day as a luxury treat in the afternoon). Think it depends on how much coffee you drink.

I would look around at the pods before looking at the machines and see what coffee/tea/chocolate ranges they have and the cost of the pods. As a PP said, you can buy Dolce Gusto compatible pods in a few supermarkets so it might be better value for money if you drink lots of coffee.

Mytupenceworth · 07/10/2018 15:05

Bean to cup machine here. Expensive initially but saves in the long run. The coffee pods work out expensive when you break it down and the impact on the environment isn't good either!

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 07/10/2018 15:06

For your budget I'd say you're better off getting an aeropress or cafetiere and a milk frother. Pod machines aren't cheap to begin with then, then the pods are expensive on top of that, the coffee is substandard and they are shockingly bad for the environment.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2018 15:08

I love my Tassimo. But I am the only coffee drinker in the house so although the pods are quite expensive (but very often on offer) I don't get through them that quickly.

Andromeida59 · 07/10/2018 15:08

I recently bought a Ninja coffee machine and it's amazing! It was about £90 but really worth it.

LadyPenelope68 · 07/10/2018 15:08

Don’t go for a pod machine, synthetic tasting milk and weak coffee, mine ended up in the bin. Best thing to get is an espresso machine like this. Absolutely brilliant as you can make black coffees, lattes, cappuccinos whatever you fancy. Ground coffee is much cheaper than pods and you can get way more variety. Absolutely love mine. The more you pay the better the machine, but this one is a really good one and only just over your price bracket.

Redglitter · 07/10/2018 15:12

I've got a Tassimo & love it. You get a great selection of pods. I'd definitely recommend them

Bimgy85 · 07/10/2018 15:16

Thanks for replies.

I'd be happy with a very basic one but ideally want an all in one. One where you have to froth the milk yourself?

Sorry, I meant ideally the budget would be 50 but if needs be/ if found a really good one I'd pay up to 150/200 maybe

I like the ones that look like the cafe machines, where you put the coffee in and attach it, press and it pours and you froth the milk yourself?

In regard to the coffee I drink, I average 3/4 cups a day Monday to Friday.

Bimgy85 · 07/10/2018 15:17

@LadyPenelope68 that looks perfect. Exactly what I'd be looking for. Does it grind the beans for you?

If you go to the Nespresso site they have an offer where you can choose a machine for £1 if you sign up to buy a certain amount of coffee each month for a year. I did it a few years ago (you spend the money each month which sits as a credit against your account until you spend it - it’s not spend it or lose it). I love my coffee machine, great coffee and so easy to use/clean.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 15:25

I haven't looked at the bean to cup machines, but don't find a moka hard to clean, unscrew, tap into the food bin, off you go!

But I am intrigued now Smile

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/10/2018 15:27

Bloody nora! I am working out how much coffee and how many mokas I could buy for £4-900!!!

MelonBuffet · 07/10/2018 15:28

If you're drinking 3 or 4 a day wouldn't a filter drip machine be better?

I only have one a day so can justify the cost of Tassimo pods (about 25p per cup if you buy Americano pack of 16 pods for £4-5, double that for milky ones as you only get 8 coffee pods/8 milk pods in a pack)

If I'm making coffee for more than one person I use instant a cafetiere, as it gets really expensive! Still cheaper than buying coffee out, obviously, but it adds up.

Plus the waste of all those plastic pods makes me feel bad. Someone in my town recycles them for charity, so when I can be arsed I drive them over to their house, but usually just get fed up of seeing the pile sat in a bowl by the coffee machine, so end up binning them Blush
