Do you have a coffee machine?

Bimgy85 · 07/10/2018 14:37

And which would you recommend?

I want something that I could have an americano but also a latte if I wanted? Is there an 'all in one' coffee machine? Grin and are they really complicated?

Budget would be around €50 I'd say, seen a tassimo advertised for that in Shaw's yesterday.

Recommendations please?

Tassimo Vivi was our choice, my partner also has one in their office at work, perfect for visitors.

MelonBuffet · 07/10/2018 15:31

I was bought mine as a gift, and while it was appreciated and is used everyday, it is one of those gifts that keeps on costing me!

puzzledlady · 07/10/2018 15:32

we use a Delonghi - bean to cup. The newest versions are about 1500 i think but there are tons more that they have that are more affordable. sometimes they have special sales with ones that have been on display.

My office uses WMF i think and they are really good, expensive though.

Gingerivy · 07/10/2018 15:34

I have a Tassimo, but don't use it every day. I buy the pods when they are on offer or if I have a voucher code for the Tassimo website for ££ off.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 07/10/2018 15:37

I don't get these pod type coffees. Aren't they just instant coffee in an expensive, bad for the environment package? Surely they're just the same as those sachets from kenco etc?

holidaylady · 07/10/2018 15:40

I had your exact spec too. And I found a wonderful machine!

Lidl! Uses ground coffee, big water reservoir, and it does the frothy milk too! And proper froth, the sort that brown sugar just sits on top of.

£60 when it's for sale. I highly recommend it. My life is better with it!

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 07/10/2018 15:40

If your budget is higher I'd recommend a DeLonghi dedica style 685. It's what I have and makes very good coffee. It has a steam arm which works well too. They're expensive on the Delonghi website but cheaper if you shop around (less than £150).

VictoriaBun · 07/10/2018 15:43

We invested in a bean to cup machine . The blurb we saw stayed it was £899.99 but the offer was £500 and odd. It gave you 15 different types of coffee and was also Bluetooth so that you could customise your preferred blend. You could also send a message for it to make your coffee so you could come downstairs to it in the morning. We kept it 3 days. It was rubbish ! So don't believe the more you pay the better you get.
We went back to our Magimix pod machine. Yes they are pods, but you can recycle them back ( and the return of them is free )

Scoleah · 07/10/2018 15:49

We have a tassimo.
Love it because we love the costa Pods! Have lots of varieties from tea, to hot choc to coffee: don't seem to be able to get unbranded pods that are cheaper to go in them though; but they are frequently on offer in supermarkets 3 for £10.
And amazon sometimes do good deals on the Costa pods Smile

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 07/10/2018 15:52

Ours is a de Longhi bean to cup machine, that has an integrated milk thingy. It was expensive, but look for offers. We got a half price offer.

MrsStrowman · 07/10/2018 15:56

We have a dolce gusto, it was bought as a gift a good few years ago, the pods are much more expensive now so we rarely use it, and the coffee isn't strong enough for me. Although it was handy for a travel mug on the way out of the door as it is very quick. We've got a Moka pot Dh's younger cousin brought us back from Italy with some very nice coffee and a mini battery whisk from IKEA so when we want a nice coffee we use that and warm and froth our own milk, DH drinks more tea, and I'm off caffeine until I get this baby out, so not actually made coffee for a while.

SerenDippitty · 07/10/2018 15:58

Cafetieres suit us fine.

LadyPenelope68 · 07/10/2018 15:58

Bigmy85 that’s not one that grinds the beans for you, as that’s over you original prue bracket, but you can buy a good, coffee bean grinder for about £15. If you’ve more of a budget then go for the same style espresso machine but DeLonghi brand. I’ve had mine for about 5 years now and it’s still going strong.

Angie169 · 07/10/2018 16:17

I love my coffee , me and Whittards are best friends ! but I would not have a coffee pod type machine , because of the cost initial of the machine , the cost of the pods , the environmental damage that the pods would do .
I have a cafetiere for when I just want one cup ( about £5 from tesco ) and a filter machine ( about £15 from argos 5 or 6 years ago ) for if I am going to have more than one brew.
But I like my coffee strong and black so I am not worried about frothy/ flavoured/ iced / and all the other odd coffees that you can get from coffee shops .

specialsubject · 07/10/2018 16:36

buy an aerochef. No cafetiere needed, recyclable paper filters. Coffee beans come from Aldi.

pods are allegedly recyclable but only if you live in a big city. Otherwise they are a big 'stuff you' to the next generation.

EscapeToTheMoon · 07/10/2018 16:36

I had a Dolce Gusto. Bought it half price one year. Sold it as the price of the pids is ridiculous.

Now i use what is commonly called a kettle.

EscapeToTheMoon · 07/10/2018 16:37

Oh and a cafetière.

Ta1kinpeace · 07/10/2018 16:40

DH uses a Mocha pot
no single use plastics like those awful pods

Theworldisfullofgs · 07/10/2018 16:43

I have a cafitiere (well actually two- one big and one small) plus an Italian stove top espresso maker (just add hot water to make americano).
I just couldn't justify all those plastic pots.

SoupDragon · 07/10/2018 16:43

I have a Delonghi Dedica. It’s been really good. No pods, put ground coffee in the hopper thingy like in a cafe and press a button, about £140 I think.

haba · 07/10/2018 16:58

We have a krups, that you put ground coffee in, water in, and it come through. It also does espresso, and steam froths the milk.
We had to stop using it though as DH was having about 10-12 coffees a day, and making himself ill from being so wired! (He's at home all day)
Now we just don't have coffee Sad

Would never have a pod one due to the environmental costs. Coffee itself is probably already bad, as it's shipped from abroad, etc.

ThanksItHasPockets · 07/10/2018 16:58

you can buy a good, coffee bean grinder for about £15

Please don’t buy an electric grinder for £15. It will be a blade grinder and the resulting coffee will be bitter. You need a burr grinder, from about £40.

Timetobookaholiday · 07/10/2018 17:07

I have a tassmo, but I am going to stop using it when my pods run out.
You can not recycle the pods, so there are 10000's going to landfill everyday 😟

LadyPenelope68 · 07/10/2018 17:08

I have had an electric grinder for years and the resulting coffee is in no way bitter at all. That’s your opinion, not everyone’s.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2018 17:08

www.terracycle.co.uk/en-GB/brigades/the-tassimo-lor-brigade-r

You can recycle them if there's a drop off point near enough.
