DD not far off 9 months and past few days has had really bad breath like adult morning breath ! She has a few teeth but doesn’t seem to be suffering with any new ones at the moment. I brush her teeth and gums twice daily should I be worried ? Any advice please

My guess would becoming from her throat has she been off colour recently?

Momotheathlete · 07/10/2018 10:40

It's a very common teething thing. Mine has really manky breath too. I try and give her lots of water during the day but it is still horrible.

Myusername101z · 07/10/2018 10:43

Ok thanks I’ll give her more water, she did have a cold a few weeks ago but she seems over it now

dc has bad breath with a cold

Bloatstoat · 07/10/2018 10:55

My DC had this when a bit older - when I took him to the doctor the said it was tonsillitis and bad breath can be a sign. Might be worth getting it checked if little one has seemed unwell - my DC wasn't too bad when I took him, just a bit off colour but my mum nagged me to go in, I was v glad I did as that night he became very unwell with a high temp so I was v glad we'd already got antibiotics! He'd had the bad breath for a few days.

Tiredtomybones · 07/10/2018 10:59

We call it poorly breath. Both of mine have always had this for a couple of days before coming down with something and both have been prone to tonsillitis.

Coconutcreampie · 07/10/2018 11:57

Is she your first? You may be smelling her getting ill. My kids breath smells wierd just before they become poorly and lots of other mums say the same, somehow we can just smell. Illness on our kids

Myusername101z · 07/10/2018 12:06

@coconutcreampie yeah she’s my first I’ll keep an eye on her she has had it for a few days and not showing sign of illness , she had a cold a few weeks ago so I hope it isn’t another one coming Confused

If it continues with no other symptoms I may take her to the gp thanks

@Coconutcreampie i am so glad this is a thing I was feeling a bit crazy thinking my son smelled ill :p

Amanduh · 07/10/2018 12:08

Mine is 22 months and has AWFUL breath when teething!

sar302 · 07/10/2018 12:11

Mine has manky breath with a cold. I can definitely smell when he's ill! I think it's the mouth breathing...

secretsciurusvulgaris · 07/10/2018 12:15

Any possibility that she has stuck something in her nose? DD at 14 months managed to lose a paper stitch in her nose and we didn’t know that was the source of the problem until it came out. The bad breath vanished straight away.

Coconutcreampie · 07/10/2018 12:16

I think it's a wierd evolutionary thing but by the time you get onto your 2nd or once your little one is a bit older you definatly know their smell. The only thing you do really have to be careful with is if their breath smells like pear drops as that can be a sign of diabetes

MrTrebus · 07/10/2018 12:39

Mine had this twice it was a throat infection both times. Most likely somehow linked to teething. If your DC has a consistent high temp take to GP if not probably just teething.

Oopsusernamealreadytaken · 07/10/2018 12:41

Mine both had this when about to cut teeth or when they had a virus.

Chwaraeteg · 07/10/2018 13:15

Has she stuck anything up her nose? Maybe a pea or something? Playdough? They can get horrendous breath from this (speaking from experience).

Myusername101z · 07/10/2018 15:00

Thanks everybody , She’s sleeping right now but I’ll have a look at her nose when she’s awake although I don’t think she has. She had a bad cold and terrible cough a few weeks ago wonder if it’s the lasting effects of that ?

DD gets bad breath when she has tonsil stones.

SlipperyLizard · 07/10/2018 15:26

Ours get weird breath when they’re ill/about to be ill too. Glad to hear it is common!
