DP and I are planning our annual weekend away without the kids.
We’re more of a “let’s go to a nice restaurant, get drunk in bars, then shag our selves senseless in the hotel” kind of couple so not really looking for hiking, scenic places.
Staying in the UK as will literally be fri-sun (longest we can get babysitters) and on a limited budget (Max £300 for hotel)

We’ve already done
Liverpool
London
Leeds
Lake District
Costswolds

Any recommendations? Cities and/or specific hotels?

Bath is lovely. Lots to do. Shopping, restaurant etc. The bath spa is great for a bit of history and they have spa you can use. They do a sunset package which looked good. The spa bath is on a roof top.

We’ve just been looking at Bath funnily enough! It looks beautiful!
I went once to visit a friend who was at uni there about 12 years ago but I definitely didn’t see the best of it

Newcastle

MichelleJ79 · 07/10/2018 00:08

I would have a look at York or maybe Chester. Both nice a good variety of bars, restaurants and hotels etc.

youcancountonme · 07/10/2018 00:09

Why did you break with tradition and go to somewhere beginning with C?!

Lavenham
Stay at The Swan

InstagramPork · 07/10/2018 00:09

Just to add we’re going in Feb though so not sure about rooftop spas 😬

Sorry posted to soon. Newcastle is lovely. Lots of beautiful buildings, loads of foodie places and bars. Shipping, free museums, close the the beach (and great tacky arcades).

GreenMeerkat · 07/10/2018 00:09

Edinburgh!

garethsouthgatesmrs · 07/10/2018 00:10

Cambridge

InstagramPork · 07/10/2018 00:10

@youcancountonme Grin I hadn’t noticed that. They aren’t in order, Cotswolds was first actually

@GreenMeerkat we’re in the Midlands so Edinburgh is quite a long drive for us

Meandyoumake2 · 07/10/2018 00:11

I'd go Newcastle too say down the quayside!

BeautifulPossibilities · 07/10/2018 00:12

Edinburgh!!

Armchairanarchist · 07/10/2018 00:14

Rooftop spas in Bath in February are tehe best as the water is so hot. Much nicer than summer (I went in December)

Op I am in the same position but looking at November for a nice weekend. Bath doesn't work for me as I lived there for 5 years so know it very well

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/10/2018 00:17

Edinburgh would be my first choice but after that York or Chester.

Sparklesocks · 07/10/2018 00:18

Bristol is a lovely city and has good bars and pubs. And if the weather is nice you can walk along the harbour.

Norwich is also quite nice and you can rent a boat to go out on the broads.

TeeniefaeTroon · 07/10/2018 00:19

I was going to say Edinburgh too 😁

C0untDucku1a · 07/10/2018 00:24

Manchester
York
Harrogate
Fly to dublin.

GreenMeerkat · 07/10/2018 00:38

Fly or train to Edinburgh?

Honestly it's worth it. Fab city.

blinkywinky · 07/10/2018 01:21

Belfast! Long planet says it's No1 place to visit.

knittingdad · 07/10/2018 01:36

Exeter is a nice city.

When we lived there we found the Puffing Billy to be a superb restaurant just a short way down the estuary on the trainline. And I used to love the scones at the Jolly Roger cafe on the quayside.

I'm not so sure about hotels, though. The Southgate was a bit disappointing. The venerable old one burnt down.

There are lots of other small Devon towns worth visiting: Totnes, Bovey Tracey for example.

Main demerit is heading south on the M5 with everyone else on a Friday evening. We'd normally be heading in the opposite direction and it looked horrendous. Maybe consider taking the train?
