To get a tablet for 3 & 5 year old

I am contemplating getting 3 & 5 year old a tablet each for christmas. Not an ipad, I have heard in the past (but not paid much attention) to Tesco doing much cheaper ones. Can anyone recommend one? My 5 year old get so much homework needed to be done on apps - we were given a list of 15-20 apps useful to their learning.

Disclaimer: i am aware that they are young, but will live in a world where technology is everywhere. Tablets can aid learning and there are some fantastic apps available. Contrary to belief, with responsible parenting kids can have a tablet and still play outside and do arts and crafts

I don't think you're unreasonable, and I have a 3 and almost 5 year too.

We're debating an Amazon fire tablet as a 'kids tablet' at home. School used various apps, even nursery do, and I'd rather there was a tablet with just kids stuff, than have sticky fingers on my iPad (and 100s of selfies 😬).

We're just going to have one, and it can be handed over for 20minutes of phonics/maths/You Tube then taken back.

We have a Lenovo tablet and a 4 yr old.
It was very useful as distraction for short periods.
Lots of fun learning apps and BBC iPlayer etc.
Great for him watching in bed about 5am (very poor sleeper and would dose a bit till 6am).
Was also great in the car for a while

However it got that he was wanting to watch all the time.
Would prefer it to playing and even the TV! And especially getting in to the games on the BBC apps. Would get very involved and animated. I decided enough was enough.

After trying to restrict it and failing, I just put it in the cupboard one day about 4 months ago. And was vague when he asked for it.
So "hmm, not sure where we put it, let's do this...-
He asked for it daily for a few weeks, then occasionally, now not mentioned it for a couple of months!

So in short, they are great, but so would definitely have rules set up before you get one.

We have a kindle fire for our 18mo, bought to keep him entertained on a long haul flight. He only uses it to watch Duggee or The Gruffalo for 2 mins a day, just to keep him still when I do the last nappy change and pjs before bed, as he’s so tired he’s usually a wriggling, whining whirlwind otherwise. I’m sure we’ll use it for apps when he’s a bit bigger.

Amazon fire tabs good, my son has one. He’s usually allowed it after school for a bit before dinner and homework whiles he’s having a snack!
