AIBU to want my contraceptive implant removed after only a week?

I had Nexplanon implant put in a week ago. First two nights I went a little bit insane, arguing, shouting etc but everything seemed to calm down. But today I’m feeling extremely low and unmotivated and quite depressed about everything. Will things settle down? I examined my arm to see if I thought if I could remove it easily myself but it seems to be quite deep under the skin. Please tell me I’ll feel better tomorrow!!

I was the same with my first one. Just felt low and was constantly bleeding for a month or so. Then it settled down and I’m back to normal, but with no periods. I think it varies from woman to woman but I would stick with it for a while longer Flowers

I'm not sure that your moods could be explained by the insertion of a contraceptive implant. It's not like you get a huge rush or hormones - the rod slowly secretes the hormone over a 3 year period, nothing happens quickly. The amount you'd have got in a couple of days would be negligible.

Maybe look at other reasons why you are feeling low and unmotivated - I doubt you can blame the contraceptive for how you are feeling.

And no you can't just pull it out. It is inserted with a tool and it has to be removed the same way. See your doctor if you want it out.

Yes, you would be unreasonable.

You need to wait a few months.

Yes. They cost £100 plus the time to fit it. I doubt you'd be so quick to have it out if you'd paid that. Give it three months as most side effects settle in that time and what you're feeling is probably unrelated to the implant in any case.

I hope it settles soon, some people find they settle, others don’t. I completely believe it can effect your mood if your sensitive to the hormones in it, although it releases over 3 years it is still releasing!
