Please can someone identify this for me! I found it craawling amongst DH’s clothes he had left on the bedroom floor (that should be the aibu!).

Ive not seen one of these before and it’s making me feel itchy at the thought that there could be more of them!

That's a harmless shield bug. It will have come off a branch/bush your DH brushed against most likely.

Sling it back outside and worry not.

Yourenotericlove · 02/10/2018 14:57

It's just a shield bug I think. Really common and nothing to worry about.

AdorableMisfit · 02/10/2018 14:59

That's some kind of shield bug. Totally harmless, unless you are a plant. It's probably hitched a lift in from the garden. Just put it outside.

Fanciedachange1 · 02/10/2018 15:12

Thanks! I threw it out the window once i knew it was safe to release.

Oh shield bugs are lovely! Sometimes they come in bright colours too, my fav is the lime green one!
No need to fear.

Dahlietta · 02/10/2018 15:16

Do you live in an urban area, OP? Wink

HandlebarTash81 · 02/10/2018 15:16

I had one of those today too! But I didn't brush his teeth... maybe I should've done...

13Crows · 02/10/2018 15:18

The first time I saw one I was convinced it was alien lol. The bright green ones look great.

drinkygin · 02/10/2018 15:24

Sorry OP but I’m laughing at the ziplock bag 😂

Fanciedachange1 · 02/10/2018 15:24

The shameful thing is I live an area that isn’t really that urban so I have no excuse to not know what it was!

Tbh it caught me off guard as I heard it fall from DH top to a metal belt buckle with quite a “ding” so mentally I was visioning it being strong and indestructible!

I probably would have freaked more had it been brightly coloured, although just brown made me think it was some kind of ginormous flea (hence the toothbrush for scale!).

drinkygin I panicked and didn’t have much to hand! i didnt know if it would try to jump or could fly, or whether it would have hidden so i grabbed the first thing I could find and then spent ages trying to encourage it in!

YABU for putting the poor thing in the bag! 😂
Glad you released it OP

I was hoping this was going to be like the slug thread...

ninjagomum · 02/10/2018 15:31

Totally harmless but they always startle me as they are really big and heavy where I live - not UK. I just grab them and throw back outside. Also known as stink bugs though - don't squash them .

SpoonBlender · 02/10/2018 15:32

We get bright green ones, orange ones, brown and black ones. They're comedy looking little things, like tiny tanks.

CesiraAndEnrico · 02/10/2018 15:47

STINK BUG !

Do not let one of these sneak into the path of your no-bag hoover when you aren't paying attention.

Little bastards think my house is there handy hibernation spot and are all trying to get in. And they ate the last of the figs on the tree. The fuckers. You couldn't even see the figs, they were smoothered in these smelly little gits, all merrily chomping away.

CesiraAndEnrico · 02/10/2018 15:48

their, not there

gussiefox · 02/10/2018 16:22

As PP said, it is a stink bug. NEVER squish one (even by accident) They release the aroma of a thousand rotting carcasses and the smell lingers for days Envy (not envy)

Holidayz · 02/10/2018 22:33

As stated, it's a shield bug. Only ever seen little ones in the UK, but when in holiday in France have seen some large ones. They are loud when flying and a bit clumsy... Fly, fly, fall out of the sky, land.

Here's one we found in France this summer.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 02/10/2018 22:41

I’ve only ever seen green ones, I thought they were some sort of beetle 🙈

DollyDayScream · 02/10/2018 22:41

I think these are beetles that live outdoors and will perish indoors.
Poor thing is obviously lost.
