AIBU?
To ask what toy or item your Dc has wanted that is 'the biggest waste of money /tat'?
HowCanThisBeRight · 02/10/2018 08:25
Just wondering as I've just flicked TV on and it's a kids channel. Advertising toys in the breaks and I can't believe how much of it looks shite.
All these 'Suprise' items which you have to collect look crap too.?.
God I sound miserable. I'm not lol.
When my teen was younger he liked Thomas the tank mainly but the track and trains which was good, oh and lego.
. Now sat here with my 7m old wondering if there will be any decent toys in a few years
Sierra259 · 02/10/2018 08:30
Fucking Fingerling that she played with about twice We have so far managed to avoid the godawful LOL dolls or any of those collectable sets. Our biggest collection of plastic tat comes from free gifts in magazines - a shame because they also enjoy doing the activities.
EmpressJewel · 02/10/2018 08:34
Gooey louis - a game where you pull boogies out of Louis' nose until his head explodes.
Pig goes pop - a game as above but you stuff burgers in until the pigs belly pops.
DS was obsessed with both games and only played with them for about a week. Then the pieces go missing..........
Peterrabbitscarrots · 02/10/2018 08:38
This fucker. Cost me £170 last Christmas and got played with for one day

myusernameisnotmyusername · 02/10/2018 08:38
Hatchimals. The excitement was when it hatched about a day after she had it. Now she hardly plays with them.
Soubriquet · 02/10/2018 08:39
Pj Mask play house that my dd begged for
The paw patrol look out tower. That one that stands at 3 feet high.
Various track sets that take me ages to put together, for the dc to play with it for about 5 mins before putting away.
BevBrook · 02/10/2018 08:44
Most of these are things they insisted on buying themselves with birthday money etc
Making chocolate lollies machine thing.
3d pen kit
Robot that shoots disc things - broke after about 5 days
Domino run
Lazybonita · 02/10/2018 08:54
Transformers. Pokemon cards. Hatchimal. Various interactive/robot creatures.
MozzieMagnet · 02/10/2018 09:00
Hatchimals
LOL dolls in balls - they are godawful, yes
Tiptoi reading pens/games ... you have to bloody upload whatever you want to do every single time
all jigsaw puzzle balls
Littleredbrickmammy · 02/10/2018 09:02
Also Hatchimal. Took over an hour to hatch (on xmas day). It was played with a few times then forgotten.
Artofpretending · 02/10/2018 09:02
Furby. Kept having to put new batteries in every time they wanted to play with it. Complete rubbish.
Artofpretending · 02/10/2018 09:03
Lol dolls are awful and so overpriced although my dd does play with them after eg in the bath.
Littleredbrickmammy · 02/10/2018 09:04
I know a lot of people aren’t keen but my DD plays with her LOL dolls all the time. If she takes a toy with her it’s those
CMOTDibbler · 02/10/2018 09:05
A chocolate coin maker. TBF I knew it would be crap, but ds wanted it so much.

My dd plays with LOL dolls all the time as well and she’s nearly 10 and wants more for her bday so they’re not universally a waste of money!
However the following were monumental fails;
Hatchimal
Fingerling
HowCanThisBeRight · 02/10/2018 09:09
Ah my neice has fingerings and hatchimals and my Sil said the same. Theyre crap..
My dad (6) hasn't asked for any of that... Yet? She very much likes her MLP, baby born etc etc so hoping that stays that way.
Although my I laws got her some LOL dolls. They got opened and that was it. What a load of tat.
Yokohamajojo · 02/10/2018 09:10
Fireman Sam set with a fire station, vehicle and few characters. It was so shit, didn't fit together as it should and was played with a few times.
Oh and a lego train set which was very expensive, was not played with and just sat on his desk for years. We only dismantled it recently
HowCanThisBeRight · 02/10/2018 09:11
I had the coin maker as a child. It was done my GET SET back then. It was rubbish then. Made such a mess and took longer for my mum to wash up and tidy than it did to make the lollys. Which tasted crap
Soubriquet · 02/10/2018 09:11
Ah yes hatchimals
Dd has ignored it since it hatched
Yet she loves the hatchimals colleggtibles. Plays with them all the time.
She plays with her LOL dolls all the time too
livingthegoodlife · 02/10/2018 09:12
Don't saw Grimms rainbow! I've just bought one for my daughter's birthday....
Son has chocolate coin maker on his Christmas list. I'm doomed.
Here it's all those stupid plastic princess glittery pets/figurines. They just sit in a drawer.
RicStar · 02/10/2018 09:14
There are still lots of nice toys that do get played with! But agree on fingerings (played with Xmas day only) and lol dolls - just like opening them not playing with them. Even dd (aged 6) has realised they are expensive now she gets pocket money.
LexieLulu · 02/10/2018 09:15
We got my son a Thomas the tank track thing for Xmas last year, took up an entire room in space and takes hours to build.
Obviously it's not feasible to have a track taking his bedroom up so it got put away, my DH made it back up once and other than that it's been dumped in a box.
MissMarplesKnitting · 02/10/2018 09:18
Our big proper hatchimal gets ignored.
The little collectibles however, are played with constantly in 'houses' etc belonging to other toys. They've actually worked out well.
Our biggest money waste was a scalextric set, which has been played with less than ten times. DS isn't a car boy, it would seem!
starkid · 02/10/2018 09:33
Mine was actually myself in the 90's, and was one of those robotic dogs. I was obsessed and begged my parents to get me one for Xmas, then it just gathered dust on a shelf. Same with the furby in 1998.
Scalextric was pointless as we never wanted to get it all out/set it all up, and to be honest all you can do is make the same few tracks and race them, got a bit boring!
I got the most play out of toys which made you use your imagination, e.g. barbies/little figurines//sylvanian families/kitty+puppy in my pocket. I'd set them up and make up stories with them all for hours. Also board games I played with a lot when friends came over, I remember loving mouse trap and screwball scramble the most.
