To ask what toy or item your Dc has wanted that is 'the biggest waste of money /tat'?

Just wondering as I've just flicked TV on and it's a kids channel. Advertising toys in the breaks and I can't believe how much of it looks shite.
All these 'Suprise' items which you have to collect look crap too.?.

God I sound miserable. I'm not lol.
When my teen was younger he liked Thomas the tank mainly but the track and trains which was good, oh and lego.
. Now sat here with my 7m old wondering if there will be any decent toys in a few years

Over the years:

Fur real pony - £60 and played with once
VR goggles
Monopoly - it taught the kids to swear
pop! Vinyls
Any character clothing/pjs/backpack/pencil case etc - by the time it’s xmas they’d hate the character
Barbie horse and carriage

But we love Thomas trackmaster in this house

Playmobil is our best ever buy for DS2. He LOVES it. We have loads now and he's already plotting what he wants Santa to bring him. I'm happy to build the collection.

Spent £50 on a Furby for DS1 last Christmas. I think he's quite cute but he eats batteries like crazy and drives my husband mad.

The Ninjago Kryptarium Prison. Both DSs got one a couple of years ago. They love them and they do play with them, but the bloody things are so fragile that I can now assemble them from pieces without the instructions.

Most useless thing was probably the wooden garage my mum bought DS1 for his first birthday. It was ridiculously expensive, but beautiful and looked sturdy. The plastic ramps wouldn't stay screwed into the wooden bases and the whole thing fell apart. A couple of years later (after we got rid of it) we were handed down a plastic garage. Nowhere near as lovely to look at but completely indestructible.

As far as tat goes, has to be Stickeez, Zomlings and SuperZings. Mine are obsessed with them. But they have to be one of the most played with things we have.

Dd love all the collectable stuff. LOL's, Smushy Mushies, Num Noms, shopkins, Teenie Genies. All that crap.
She's gets them with her pocket money and they make her deliriously happy. I can't begrudge her it to be honest

@Pepper123123 my DD is begging me for a squashy but I hate them too!
I also forgot to mention the hamsters in a house that DD went on about for Xmas that got played with for about 1 day! Her hot wheels garage was a good buy though!

Puppy and kitty surprise. Begged for them both but once the babies were discovered no longer interested.

Slip and slide. Couldn’t get the hang of it.

Nothing execpt for some tat cars that look like kinder egg things.
I must admit though, we don’t have adverts on tv (Netflix and no tv licence) and we don’t watch YouTube either. So maybe my kids are less susceptible?

Long time ago, mine are 40+ now, they wanted Domino Rally, utterly useless, might work better nowadays on laminate flooring, on carpet it was impossible to stand them up.

Any of the toot toot garages or towers, just get the track and the cars. Get played with more often and can be shoved in a box unlike the monstrously large play sets which are sat in the corner of my dining room gathering dust

Dr Who Tardis - a model that assembled of the control bridge of the Tardis. I just remember all these long curved shapes that needed to slot together.
I think it got assembled once then spent the rest of its life in bits (before it went to Toy Heaven aka Landfill)

Scalextric is awesome but there are issues with home sets. Most of them are too short and the cars are too quick and stuck down to be enjoyable to drive. Either take the traction magnet out or buy more track to get some longer straights.

If you really want your kids to enjoy it, see if there is a local club nearby and take them for a race night. Clubs race on big tracks and will sort out the cars. Look up Worthing HO racing for an example of a great family club. And if they still don't enjoy racing, then yeah it's probably not for them.

The other big issue is people buying rubbish brands like Chad Valley.

I can't stand the plastic eggs with little figures and things in. Both DS and DD badger constantly for them. And then they're promptly forgotten and abandoned around the house. I hate buying landfill but sometimes you have to give in!

Bloody Furbies... A few Christmases ago DP and I spent most of the last Saturday before Christmas day driving around every toyshop in a 20 mile radius for two Furbies for his DNephews that DP's sis was adamant they desperately wanted. Nearly £200 later, said Furbies were purchased and dutifully gifted on Christmas day.

On new years eve the same year I spotted both Furbies stored away on a top shelf of the toy storage unit... When I asked DP's sis why they were stored out of reach of the children thet had been gifted to, she never batted an eyelid while responding ' they boys weren't that bothered by them and they were so annoying I waited until the boys were asleep on boxing day and hid them until they turned themselves off'... We have given our DNephews cash for Christmas ever since.

Heelies, DS used to go to roller skating classes and a roller disco. I was told that once they have 'push forward' motion they may not like the feeling of heelies. I think he wore them once. Waste of money.

Another vote for Paw Patrol pup tower. My son really wanted it but I would not spend £40 on a piece of crap. Two weeks later one was fly tipped on our road. I washed it and gave it to my son who played with it for 5 mins and has not looked at it since. So glad I did not spend money on it.

The sodding Paw Patroller and Lookout Tower think it cost about £100 for both and she barely played with them! They're really flimsy as well!
