To ask for overweight experiences at alton towers

Supposed to be going to A.T next week but im worried im too fat.

Im aware of the "chest restrictions" noted on the website - im not worried about those, im not exactly top heavy.

My issues are my thighs and tum. I wear a 18 top and a 22jeans. I worry about the bars coming down and my thighs being too chunky for them to close.

Does anyone have any experience to put my mind at rest, or even stories that will make me stay home instead

Glad you've had lots of helpful replies.

Given that most of these rides were built in the last 15 years (I think?), I'm surprised they weren't made with bigger seats. People who are size 20/22 are saying they can only just about squeeze in - yet loads and loads of people are size 24+ nowadays. Theme parks would get more money if they made the seats roomier, surely.

Hehehe intellectual Grin

That's a bit like "If you have to tell people you are the boss you are not the boss"

If you have to tell people you are an intellectual you most definately aren't

Oh we all think you’re an absolutely shining wit.

More like a whining shit

I’m so glad someone got it Grin I used that as a tagline for a sports report once!

Papergirl1968 · 02/10/2018 08:25

Watching with interest as I’m a 22-24. Just about managed to squeeze on to Pepsi Max at Blackpool with the attendant urging me to breath in but the restraint barely closed.
There was a flying plane type ride which didn’t have restraints but had a ridiculously small turnstile that you had to exit through. Just about managed that by standing on tiptoe but it was really silly, not only too small but caused a backlog of people.
I’m sick of anxiously trying to spot what sort of restraint rides have and don’t want to try the test seats - it’s different for fat women compared to a 6ft 3ins rugby player type bloke who is not going to be embarrassed about his size - so it’s easier pretend I don’t want to go on the big rides.

Justanothernamechange2 · 02/10/2018 09:27

Papergirl i had similar on a ghost train with my niece - i was only a 16-18 at the time. No restraints on the ride so that was fine, but the turnstile to get off was a squeeze!!! That was awkward.

Im going to A.T on the 12th so ill be sure to report back

Air is a bit of a bastard as is Spinball. I went when I was around the same size and managed them all though. Have fun! I'm jealous. Smiler is a must (if you can see past the accident that happened) it's intense! Ahhh I love theme parks, OP can I come?

Iooselipssinkships · 02/10/2018 10:21

In regards to trying out the taster seats, just have someone take a picture of you and no one will think you're testing to see if you fit. My kids always get in them anyway, part of the fun before queuing for 9 hours.

Papergirl1968 · 02/10/2018 10:59

Yes, Op, do let us know. We only live about an hour from AT and haven’t been for a while so might go next summer.

Justanothernamechange2 · 02/10/2018 14:07

looselips come along ahah! The more the merrier n all that.

I went a lot when i was younger -- but the last time i went was when the smiler was being built- im not put off giving it a go..accidents happen.. i have to drive to get there, the roads are just as statistically damgerous, if not more 🤷‍♀️.

So guys its verdict day.

Galactica keeps shutting and stopping mid-ride because the weather - I'm not even attempting it. Shame because thats a ride up for debate.

Smiler - issueless
Oblivion - snug but no issues, the guy did an extra click for me when clipping the belt in but i think that was just a strength thing
Rita - issueless
Thirteen - woman did me an extra click again but again i think it was a strength thing cause it didn't hurt or anything
Nemesis - issueless, seat was snug but no issues.

I had to do the walk of shame off of the wickerman though - the bar just wouldn't click on my thighs. They were really nice about it though and i wasnt the only one.

If ive missed any let me know, just sat having a cuppa filling you in
