I have been listening to someone outside moan to their friend about the weather, the cold, the price of heating for 10 minutes now. Can we have some positives?

I like the festive hot chocolates at Costa and seeing young kids out in the snow for the first time Smile

OP posts:
DuggeeHugs · 30/09/2018 20:29

The colour of the changing leaves
The smoky smells
It's chilly
Nobody comments on me wearing layers
The lights - candles and fairy lights
Festivities
Food - soups, stews and gingerbread. Baked potatoes on a cold night by a roaring bonfire
Fireworks
Hot chocolate!
Snow
Christmas movies and music
Hats - I love hats!
Dark mornings and evenings
Snuggling under a blanket with my favourite book
Able to regulate my temperature far more easily than in the miserably hot summer
Taking my kids out to find conkers and hazelnuts and beautiful leaves
I feel like I can breathe - autumn is like a new beginning for me

Doghorsechicken · 30/09/2018 20:31

Sunny & frosty morning walks. Cosy pubs. Beautiful colours on the trees. Halloween. Bonfire night. Christmas cheer. Twinkly lights. Cuddles on the sofa with DH, my elderly dog & this year my son! Hot chocolate with marshmallows & cream. Roast dinners. Blankets on the sofa. Playing in the snow. My birthday. Between now & New Year is definitely my favourite time of year!

cricketmum84 · 30/09/2018 20:54

I'll tell you what I don't love.

Bloody sodding mutant bloody spiders!! Clip clipping across my living room floor and hiding in my shoes.

MawkishTwaddle · 30/09/2018 20:54

New slippers.
Stews, casseroles and hot puddings.
The smell of bonfires.
The fire being on at night.
Tights and boots.

BarbedBloom · 30/09/2018 20:54

The clothes. Snuggling up under a blanket and watching a movie or reading a book. All the spicy scented candles and body products. Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas. All the warm stodgy food. Crisp autumn leaves under your boots.

I love autumn and winter. So happy!

cardibach · 30/09/2018 21:03

That cosy, snuggly feeling you get from being all wrapped up indoors in jumpers or blankets
Seriously? Jumpers and heavy clothes are uncomfortable, they restrict movement and dig in if you get them twisted (all the time). Blankets also restrict movement and squash toes. Not cosy. Grim and uncomfortable. And I hate needing all that. Warm weather gives you that warm feeling while you are free to move.
Imaith the people you can hear outsode, OP. Autumn/winter - grim, grim, grim. No positives. I need to emigrate.

tigercub50 · 30/09/2018 21:16

September is one of my favourite months. I love walking on the Cornish beaches once the holidaymakers have mostly gone home, then sipping a hot chocolate whilst watching the surfers.
Christmas & the lead up to it are another wonderful time of the year. I’m such a big kid!
Also love the skies in Autumn/Winter & cold crisp starry nights 🌌

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 30/09/2018 21:29

The beautiful autumn leaves.
Fresh smelling air from wild and windy weather.
Seeing stars in the morning sky.
Stepping on crunchy leaves.
Skeins of geese flying noisily overhead. Doesn't happen often but they seem so free. I envy them.
Stews, puddings and mixing my own cocoa /coffee /brown sugar.

IVflytrap · 01/10/2018 08:07

@cardibach

People like different things. I'm seriously considering buying myself a weighted blanket as I like the same feeling you consider restricting. It's feels safe and comfortable. Similarly I like going out wearing a coat or a jacket and feel weirdly naked when it's hot out and I can't wear either. Glad for you that you like different things to me and not really sure what you want me to say...

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 01/10/2018 08:14

All the above mentioned ones like slow cooker and soup maker coming out, boots, gilets and winter coats.

But my favourite thing is walking around outside with the dog at dusk, when the curtains are still open but the lights are on, seeing happy families in their sitting rooms or kitchens doing normal stuff. No idea why this makes me so happy but it does.

lilyheather1 · 01/10/2018 08:18

Watching my cocker spaniel who was built for the Autumn/ Winter season, zoom through the trees and churn up the leaves.

Mulled cider warmed in the slow cooker

Frangelico hot chocolates (seriously so good)

Being able to wear my DMs and wellies near exclusively.

Investing in yet more thermal socks and falling asleep in front of the log burner in cosy pyjamas. Heaven!

Kintan · 01/10/2018 09:52

I love autumn - the clothes, the hearty food, the sense of magic in the air, the early morning mist, the amazing leaf colours, walking through the forest and park then stopping in at a pub with a crackling fire, hot chocolate, hibernating at home and not feeling like we should be put socialising. I love feeling nature slowing down.

Winter I have mixed feelings about and by the end of it I am ready for some spring sunshine. However there is a stark beauty in bare trees in thin sunlight. Plus my husband, brother and son all have winter birthdays so we have reasons to celebrate.

cardibach · 01/10/2018 11:44

IVf,ytrap I don’t want you to say anything. The OP asked for opinions to counteract her negative neighbours. I’m just saying I agree with them and can’t see positives. Not sure why you think it relates to your actions/feelings really.

DollyDayScream · 01/10/2018 11:49

Everything is cosy and comforting!

Clothes,
Fires,
Candles,
Food,

I absolutely adore smokey autumn bonfires too.

IVflytrap · 01/10/2018 17:14

@cardibach
You quoted my comment and asked "Seriously?" hence why I assumed you were talking to me, not OP. But it's alright, clearly crossed wires going on there.

cardibach · 01/10/2018 20:11

Well yes, I was referring to that as well as the topic of the OP. It’s just an opinion though, same as yours...

Snugglepiggy · 01/10/2018 20:33

I love Autumn for so many of the reasons already mentioned but mainly for sleep.Something happens as soon as the darker mornings and evenings draw in and I sleep so much better.Hibernation mode I guess but it suits me.

RedHelenB · 01/10/2018 20:43

I love all our seasons but you can't beat the gorgeous colours of autumn. It's been such a pretty weekend out walking the dog!

PlatypusPie · 01/10/2018 20:45

The light is gorgeous at the moment.

Haisuli · 01/10/2018 20:57

The telly is generally a lot better. The trees are going to get gorgeous and there will be some beautiful low sun moments. We will also enjoy a snow day at some point and drinking a snowball under the lights of the Christmas tree will be jolly. There will also be a lot of cold, damp darkness and we will all feel ill and fed up. The shortest day will bring a bit of relief but then it will be a long haul for warmth and light. I need to emigrate too.

Delatron · 01/10/2018 21:27

Just because it snowed last year doesn’t mean it will this year! It didn’t snow down south for about 6 years!

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 01/10/2018 21:27

No more sunscreen.
DD's ezxema has cleared up.
Don't have to have salads all the time.
Main thing for me is the clothing : I look thinner in jeans, boots, scarves etc. Which is the most important thing

Orangecake123 · 01/10/2018 21:35

fluffy blanket, hot drinks, candles, soup and crunchy leaves= love.

SabineUndine · 01/10/2018 21:36

Spring is just round the corner.

Trialsmum · 01/10/2018 21:43

Christmas and then March when it’s nearly over and my SAD and Reynard’s syndrome can subside ☹️.
