I have been listening to someone outside moan to their friend about the weather, the cold, the price of heating for 10 minutes now. Can we have some positives?

I like the festive hot chocolates at Costa and seeing young kids out in the snow for the first time Smile

@DanceDanceDance80

They do a "Bonfire" hot chocolate, tastes of "cinnamon, chai and toffee" according to the staff member. I liked it! Gave it 8/10.

They also do normal hot chocolate and around winter they do gingerbread syrup - if you order a hot chocolate with one pump of vanilla syrup and two of gingerbread you won't regret it Grin

@SneakyGremlins Oooooh thanks for the tip!

I have a friend who works there so I get free ones, I couldn't afford it if I had to pay for them all! Grin

Walking in crunchy autumn leaves is the best thing about autumn.

Jolonglegs · 30/09/2018 15:48

I love seeing the seasons changing.
Autumn: Lovely colours, rustling leaves, wearing woolly tights and boots, routing out the woolly scarves and hats, lighting the wood burner, calling in pubs during a walk and sitting drinking in front of a fire, feeling all snugly.
Winter: Walking in the snow, getting out the crampons and hoping for good conditions on the hills, new years eve and a sense of renewal.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 30/09/2018 15:48

cozy autumn clothes
soups & stews
skiing
festivities

IVflytrap · 30/09/2018 16:05

That cosy, snuggly feeling you get from being all wrapped up indoors in jumpers or blankets, preferably with a hot water bottle or beverage. (With the weather an excuse to stay in and read/watch Netflix).

Getting to wear big coats, warm tights, boots, scarves, gloves, winter skirts and dresses. Much prefer cold weather wear over being expected to show my pasty flesh in the summer.

Twinkly lights. Snow. Crisp mornings. Pine. Cinnamon. Spiced apple. Mulled wine. Roast dinners.

A reasonable cool temperature for sleeping in. I hated trying to sleep during the heat wave.

The trees dying back. I have this one huge tree outside my flat which completely obscures the view in summer. In winter I get to see the pretty view and old/interesting buildings. Similarly, going for walks in the countryside: the view really opens up.

Following on from that: long walks in the countryside, pub-hopping on the way. Grin

I love Autumn/Winter!!

Main things-
Not feeling hot/sweaty
Boots
Stews
Candles (ideally with Christmassy scents)
Scarves and general mufflements
Getting home after work when it’s dark, and closing the door until the morning and just locking the world out
TV series- GBBO, Apprentice etc.
Seasonal hot chocolates in cafes (especially the mint one in my local)
The build-up to Christmas 🎄
Dogs in jumpers

DayKay · 30/09/2018 16:20

It’s just life as normal generally.
I love to be out and about so I just carry on doing that. Lots of walks, trips to the park and a few planned events and days out to look forward to. The weather doesn’t stop that.

I do feel that my house has to be tidier in winter as we spend more time inside and mess annoys me. That reminds me to have a clear out and get into a routine to keep on top of everything.

Mitsouko67 · 30/09/2018 16:25

Love September October November and December. FindJan to March challenging I must admit. Dull time of year with nothing much happening.

Love cosy nights in by the fire chatting reading and drinking tea. Being outdoors on frosty sunny days. Nights out at the theatre or concert hall.Love the run up to Christmas, advent traditions etc.Woolly tights and boots. Cosy cafes. I've come to like summer more over the years but I'm definitely a winter person. Love holidaying in cold places too, Scandinavia, eastern Europe.

Spinner2018g · 30/09/2018 19:59

Putting our wood burner on. Doing baking on a cold, wet afternoon. The colours and smells of the trees.

AuntBeastie · 30/09/2018 20:04

I like walking in the cold then coming in to a warm house for a hot drink. I like the beautiful cold, crisp, clear mornings. I like the food - hearty roast squash and mushrooms, sourdough toast, crumbles, poached fruit and pies. I like being tucked up by the fire knowing how cold and wild it is outside. I love everything about Christmas. I like when the sun flashes on frozen puddles.

Every season has its magic!

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/09/2018 20:05

Hayfever season is over!

Paperdolly · 30/09/2018 20:12

The trees are going to demonstrate how beautiful it is to just let go ......

DrCoconut · 30/09/2018 20:14

The end of it when I can look forward to not being cold, being able to go out more with the kids, DS2's asthma and behaviour improving and being able to put the horrible frumpy and suffocating clothes away. It's cold today, roll on summer!

MindBodyChocolate · 30/09/2018 20:19

I love autumn and winter. I love colder weather clothes and shoes, I love the feeling of being all chilly, wrapping up warm and being cozy. Open fires, blankets, going to bed early and reading. I enjoyed the hot summer and made the most of it, getting out in the sun, swimming outdoors etc but I confess that I'm thrilled it's now getting colder (at last!!)

OatsBeansBarley · 30/09/2018 20:20

Sunlight filtered through red and gold leaves.
Walking in the sun and not getting overheated.
Frosty mornings.

Sitting under a throw with a mug of something hot.
A pumpkin lantern on the step.
Christmas lights and lamps on around the living room.

Wearing woolen clothes.

OatsBeansBarley · 30/09/2018 20:22

When all the leAves are off the trees I loved to see the bare branches on the skyline.

ForalltheSaints · 30/09/2018 20:22

The autumn leaves in their various colours.
Remembrance in November of all those who died in war.
The period between Christmas and New Year when I am one of the few people at work and have holiday at other times.
Winter beer festivals.

cricketmum84 · 30/09/2018 20:22

Crisp clear mornings
Breath misting up on the way into work
Boots
Hats, scarves and gloves
Jumpers
Hot chocolate with a drop of baileys before bed
Fluffy onesies
Piles of crispy leaves
Gold and red coloured trees
Pumpkin spice latte
Gingerbread
Toffee apples
Fluffy socks
Christmas markets
Mulled wine
Not having to shave my legs 😂

Yes this is MY season!!

Keepithidden · 30/09/2018 20:25

Seeing the sunrise on my cycle commute, watching the autumn mists on fields and waterways, the dew and frost covered cob webs, frosted woodlands, iced up canals. Listening to owls and catching glimpses of deer and other wildlife. Nature in autumn and winter is beautiful.

Keepithidden · 30/09/2018 20:26

Oh I forgot, cycling in falling snow is like flying through hyperspace in star wars, I make the pew-pew noises too!

Embracethechaos · 30/09/2018 20:26

Enjoy hot food more, the dramatic, changeable weathers/skies and autumn leaves blowing in the wind. I particularly liked the leaves during the 'storm' which we just had the tail of in the south.

theSnuffster · 30/09/2018 20:27

I love cold mornings, a bit of frost with a clear blue sky. Wearing my nice warm winter boots. My children both love Halloween so that's always fun. Porridge for breakfast. Stews and roasts and homemade soup with homemade bread.
