Potty training regression aaaarrgh

Not really an AIBU I know ... guess it’s AIBU to be so frustrated with my toddler DS I could punch some walls?!?!

DS is 2.5. He was potty trained 2 months ago and got it after about a week. Perfect, the odd accident (maybe one a week?) but no dramas.

A few weeks ago, he regressed. No reason for him to do so whatsoever (no changes at home or nursery etc). It’s like he can’t be bothered anymore and we have tons of wet accidents. BUT - the accidents are only ever at home (mostly). We can go out for the whole day and he’ll stay dry and go to the toilet perfectly. Then we get home and he just starts pissing in his pants.

I’ve tried going back to prompting him every hour which helps but hasn’t sorted it. He’s too young to really appreciate a reward chart. Bribery (smarties) isn’t working either. What can I do? It’s so frustrating to have been trained and now back to constant washing and wet pants.

We had something very similar. DS potty trained at 2.5, all great for a couple of months, but in reality it was 3.5 before he was properly and reliably dry.

We tried everything, nothing worked, we were getting work done on our house at the time and he regressed majorly when we moved out and when we moved back in again. Like your child, he was worst when at home.

Sometimes there are no 'answers' just perseverance and toughing it out.

Good to know I’m not alone Laurie although shame to hear I might just have to wait it out! It’s just so frustrating when I know he can do it - he usually stays dry the whole day at nursery - he’s just messing with me at home!

After a bad start to today, he’s been a bit better. I’m trying bribery again but I’ve changed it ... his problem isn’t doing his wees in the potty/toilet, it’s getting there in time before his pants are wet. So the new bribe is 3 smarties for keeping his pants dry ... fingers crossed this has more success!
