to think a ‘standard’ doughnut contains jam?

If you were offered a doughnut without being told the type, what kind would you automatically think of?

I think jam is standard, dsis thinks a sugar ring doughnut.

Dh said a custard doughnut would come to mind first. Wtf?! I’m assuming he’s taking the piss Grin

When I lived in the UK I would assume ring but wouldn’t be shocked by a jam. I hate jam so I never accept a donut sight unseen without asking the important questions. Now in Scandinavia I assume any donut will have gunk in it, even ring donuts. It’s a mad world out here.

Plain with sugar and cinnamon. Doughnuts with jam inside
are Jam Doughnuts or Berliner Doughnuts

I had one with cheese in it once. I thought it was apple. I was not happy.

🤢

GingerFrogs · 30/09/2018 09:45

Ring.

But shops keep putting FUCKING ICING SUGAR on them.instead of actual sugar...wtf6is that?

isittheholidaysyet · 30/09/2018 09:47

Ring
Like you get at the seaside.

overagain · 30/09/2018 09:48

I'm like you and automatically think jam.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/09/2018 09:49

I’d assumed jam OP.... a ring donut is a “ring donut”

RangeRider · 30/09/2018 09:49

I'd assume with jam but then I'd only really have this conversation with my parents and so it would be jam. I'll know now to clarify if it's anyone else!

treaclesoda · 30/09/2018 09:50

I think immediately of a ring donut. Or more accurately, a gravy ring as they are called round here.

A gravy ring is the perfect donut. No fancy fillings needed. Smile

hipposarerad · 30/09/2018 10:01

Ring doughnuts and jam doughnuts are just that. If you said to me "I've got some doughnuts, would you like one?" I'd say "well of course I do... Are they jam or ring?" And then snigger like Beavis & Butthead muttering 'ring...hur hur'.

The only stipulation for me is that they should be dredged in caster sugar, not bloody icing sugar which ruins the texture and can only lead to disappointment. I speak from a position of authority, I had a part time job in a Sainsbury's bakery when I was at college and frying, filling, dredging and packing the doughnuts was my responsibility on a hungover Saturday morning.

Jam doughnut muffin, I have made these, they are indeed a thing of beauty.

Uncreative · 30/09/2018 10:06

The answer is irrelevant. I now want a jam doughnut!
